Well I have been working on 1986-93 Mazda B-Series pickups and currently own 3 of them. I have wanted and older mini truck as I have always been into older vehicles, I also own a 1942 Chevrolet pickup and 1942 Chevrolet 2dr sedan, so when these hit good old CL yesterday I snatched up the pair. The old guy who had them had passed away and the kids are selling all of his stuff. They have been covered in black berry bushes for the last 10 years or so and will have to spend some time cleaning them up. Whats funny is after I got them I had two friends on Facebook tell me they have been trying to buy them for years!!! Well my plan is to make a good little clean truck out of 1 keeping it mostly stock but low and then part out or sell the other truck. So I will be spending the next few days cleaning them up and trying to get one running. Here are the pics of the trucks the day I got them, yesterday.
I like the second but im one of those guys that love the rusted wreaks that should be condemed. Love the projects just remember to keep the pics comming. I would drop the second to the rails without cleaning it...
i gotta agree with smartmonkey seeing as im addicted to rust as well! great find and welcome to the site! i wish i could stumble across such an awesome cl find!
Thanks for the welcome's. I did pull out the power washer and washed them both down. The all white one looks better and the red/white one looks worse as more rust holes showed up. -"I like the second but im one of those guys that love the rusted wreaks that should be condemed." -"i gotta agree with smartmonkey seeing as im addicted to rust as well!" I will agree with both of you and I am a fan of rusty rat rods (my 1942 is a rat) but I would want a clean one of these Hilux pickups so I got to pull the bests from the 2 to make my keeper.
I spent some time yesterday on the all white truck. Decided I would start by throwing in a battery ad see what would happen. Remember this truck has been sitting for over 10 years!!! I turned the key and the truck fired up!!! It ran and sounded good but the water pump was stuck. I pulled the water pump, cleaned the gunk and rust, thru it back in and the truck runs perfect. I was fully expecting to have to spend days cleaning carb, gas tank, full tune up, ect. What a great little truck!!! Know I believe either the trans or the the clutch is dead. I dont believe it was takin apart at all after it was unable to drive so I am crossing my fingers its the easier route, the clutch. If it is the trans, good thing I have a parts truck!!! More updates as I do more. Stay tuned.
So I finally put some work into the all white Hilux. The front passenger side wheel was locked, so I rebuilt both front brakes with 4 new wheel cylinders, new shoes and a fresh turn of the drums. I then went to bleed the brakes and the drivers side rear has no fluid coming out of the bleeder. It looks like now I have to do the back. I still wanted to drive the truck, as I have not done so yet, and it drives pretty good for needing the brakes adjusted and it is going to need a clutch. So its sitting in the garage with another short list of parts to be ordered.
