New guy. 1991 xCab; 3vz engine. Bought truck with blown motor, bought a used one, it lasted 4,000 miles and ate the number 1 and 5 rod bearings. Rebuilt original motor and again at about 4,000 miles spun another bearing. Considering all options right now. Mostly looking for threads on a 3.4 (5vz) engine swap. Due to cost may try to salvage this engine by replacing the crankshaft and bearings and see how far it will go.
Welcome to TM! Yeah, the 3.0L V6 is not a great motor. I'm not familiar with the 3.4 V6, but have you considered maybe goin to a 22RE?
WELCOME TO TM! Plz believe me the 3VZE is a crappy motor(my yota had it too). Go with a 22RE and save yourself all the headaches. I know the R series motors will outlast the 3.0
Thanks for the feed back, but not interested in the 22r, bought this truck to do some towing with, not often but some.
Honestly bro ur better off getting away from the 3VZE. A 5VZ swap shouldnt be too hard seeing as its basically the same thing. Forgot where i read it but supposedly its the same engine block so stock motor mounts work
Yea, supposedly only need the engine, wiring harness and fuel rail. Problem is $$$, already got WAY more into this than planned when I started. Hopefully pulling the rebuilt engine this week, then I can see what happened for sure. Do not remember hearing of the 2RZ will do some looking.
Sorry work and home projects have taken all my time lately, no time to get to it this week either. Pics as soon as I take them and figure out how to post them. Have not had time to get the engine out yet either.
i belive the 2 best motors toyota ever mad was the 22re or 1uzfe as far as fuel inj motors go... i would go 22re unless you wanting some pep in your step but converting to v8 aint ya cheapest route
