Picked up a 77 recently and have a couple questions.
    1) Are there any options for replacement manual steering boxes or rebuilds? This one has tons of slop in it, adjuster screw doesn't do anything.

    2) Brakes work very well, but the back lock up with any kind of decent pedal input. Have to gently press the pedal to keep the back from locking up.

Other than that it's solid lol. Fun cruiser

Change the tie rods, ball joints, bushings, shocks . Should tighten up the steering. For the brakes, you may have a bad master cylinder or the drums need to be adjusted

Thanks I was thinking that. Looking at the steering box while turning the wheel, all of the play is on the input side before the box sends an input to the steering components.

    Welcome. Nice Cruiser!
New steering parts helped a lot on mine, took out a lot of the slop. I still haven't done the rag joint though. My brakes are similar, it's easy to lock up my truck if you give it too much pedal. I figured it's all just how a 45+yr old truck is going to be until everything gets upgraded.

Thanks the cruiser is a 75.

Next question, the fuel gauge doesn't work. Previous owner had a access hole cut in the bed, there's an extra black/red wire that has voltage with key on. Does this go to anything or am I missing anything else?
I put that connector on prematurely incase I had to extend the wire

Pull the sending unit and see if the float is still good

Fuel gage senders usually all go bad. No aftermarket units available unless something from Thailand. I replaced mine with a universal unit.
Steering box is available, but not cheap.

Pulled the sender out and didn't really know what to look for but the float/arm is still moving up and down. I'll research it more

I pulled the metal cover (square I think) off the top of my old unit. The copper coil winding was broken and separated. Yours will probably look the same. Good luck.

Ok so I pulled the sender and the cap off of it and everything looked really good. No broken wires like most i've seen.

There's the black/red wire for the fuel pump then a red/yellow wire going to the sender. What or how do I need to check on that wire to make sure it's good. Does it supply a voltage to the sender?

    Good lookin’ ‘77!
    & nice Land Cruiser also!
(…MANY years ago I had a college buddy who drove a same colored Cruiser. FUN machine!)
Where in CA are you located?
    (…I’m on the SF Peninsula.)

    I recently acquired a ‘78 long-bed.
    (…it is my profile photo.)
I bought it from the original owner in AZ. 532K miles & still running strong!
