I just picked up this beautiful 1976 Toyota Pickup SR5. I have been trying to get it running right for the last week to no prevail, damn carburetors. Its a fun truck though and on the off chance it decides to get above 4k rpm, its got a very respectable amount of power. Its got a little rust, some cracking paint, but hey its from the 70's. The previous owner is an offroad fabricator, and he put 31's, a front lift, bucket racing seats, and a cool steering wheel on it. So far, I've rebuilt the carb, put hose clamps on the fuel pump hose, changed oil/filter, and sealed most of the vacuum leaks. I think. It sputters and pops at half throttle, but I'll save that for another thread. I'm pretty happy with the truck and I'm glad I found a forum pertaining to these. Justin
nice! if you plan to lower it and need some forum help, i say remove the front wheel and take a pic of the setup he put on. We'll help you from there, but I like how it looks!
Welcome to TM! I thought someone swapped out the frame for a 4wd. There was one up here for sale that had done that. It was very tempting.
Well first my plans are to get it running, registered, and smogged. Then I think I'm going to try and get the tires to clear better, maybe build some custom a-arms with uniballs and move the wheels forward a couple of inches, just enough to get it to travel through their range without the tires rubbing. I already got the fenders rolled enough to clear, but the 31's bash the hell out of my firewall/cab. Then some decent bumpstops, maybe limit straps. I'm pretty much looking to build the truck into and indestructible d/d that can take a beating- or two- or three- and keep going. I'm pretty sure he just did a coil spacer, but I'll check and make sure. I want to keep it at its current height, but make the suspension usable.
