Looking to do a motor swap in the near future, not sure which one to do though. As of right now I have a 22re with an automatic but not sure if I want to keep the 22re, build it and just change the trans, or 5vz 3.4 or 1uz. Can anyone give me some pro and cons, difficulty, and parts avalibility. Thanks
Are you going to do it yourself and do you have another vehicle? I've thought a lot about engine swaps for my 93 4wd. For me it's either stay 22re for simplicity or swap in either a 2rz/3rz or go big with a 1uz/2uz. I know the RZ engines are fairly bolt in sorta like swapping a 3vz for the 5vz since the motor mounts don't need to be changes (I think). I hear big HP numbers if you turbo one. Met a guy with a 1uz swap mayne 6-7 yrs ago and he just kept the Lexus auto trans behind it. I'd want a 5spd or 6spd manual if possible to take one from a Tacoma, there are adapter plates available online. I see 90s Lexus 400 series for sale under $2k regularly in my local CL but tacomas seem to be made of unobtanium these days - makes me want to try and stuff one under the hood of my 75 since I don't have to smog it
Thanks for the insight, ya I'll be building it myself but this will be a project so I'll be putting her down for a while while I drive my crapolla! But after doing some digging I think I'm gonna try to do a 1uzfe swap, no time soon but it seems straight forward, and I can get one for about a grand but the only forums I'm finding are for 4x4s so the tranny they are using are W56 but I DONT KNOW if I can use that or not?
So does that mean I can use any w series as long as it fit my application and it will mate up like I was bolting it up to a 22r?
