I'm new here and picked up a '92 about three weeks ago. It's in really good shape but had a couple issues that i've had to fix. I just changed the battery and starter last week. This week I picked up ebay special intake to try to give a little more pep. I installed it, reset the ecu, and started it up. The engine fires up and dies after a few seconds. I put back all the stock airbox and pipe in and plug everything up and it still dies after a few seconds. Anybody know what could be going on? Any suggestions and pointers would be greatly appreciated.
I reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for an hour and then trying it again. It takes gas but once I let off back to idle it dies off again. I even left the battery disconnected over night and tried it this morning and same thing...so frustrating!
Any chance that theres a broken vacuum line somewhere? Obviously you didn't change anything that complicated, so I would suspect either a vacuum line, or a bad electrical connection at a sensor. Check everything you touched with the swap.
x2 on what neon said. sounds like a vacuum line came undone. its not your intake. double check your install. have someone turn the engine on for you and check for air leaks while they keep it running. also, check the afm flap door to make sure its not binding. one of my buddies had the exact same issue. came to find his afr started to bind up at the flap door. just something you might wanna check.
Check that the wire connections on the starter are on there tight. You can just use some pliers on a spade wire terminal to make it fit on tighter.
Thanks for all the input fellas! It ended up being my AFM and a blown EFI fuse. Swapped them both out and now it's golden! It was another unexpected expense but at least it's running like it should now! Thanks again!
