Hi There. I just recently got myself a 1978 Toyota Pickup. I've been wanting to lower it SOO bad. I have 4" blocks for the rear, but I've been trying to do the front suspension first. (Just gonna cut them springs till I can get some 8k or so coilover springs) Now I'm normally a Corolla guy. I've owned a 1986 Corolla SR5, 1985 Corolla SR5, 1983 Corolla SR5, and a 1979 Corolla. So I'm not really used to the front suspension on since I've only really dealt with The McPherson strut assembly on a Lower control arm. It makes me happy as hell that the RN2x uses a coil spring in the front though. But my problem is that I cant figure out how to remove the spring from the front assembly. I figure that I would have to undo the upper and lower control arm from each other and then the assembly would seperate and then I could remove the spring. But I'm not trying to completely mess up the ball joint for nothing. Deal nice and short. I cant figure out how to remove the front springs. Once I get there I will be good!! Should be able to take the shock out, swaybar end links loose, front brake line probably, compress the spring with compressor, and seperate the top ball joint and swing the lower A frame down and pull the spring out..
take the swaybar out, shock out, then pop lower ball joint loose you might have to mess around with the spring(twist,turn) to get it out also you will have to get u-bolts made to go with your blocks betts springs in portland made mine for about 45 bucks good luck

Make sure to strap the spring to the frame and support the LCA wit a jack and release the tension slowly. Dnt want the coil flyin out at u
i recently took my springs out the ghetto way... i just supported the frame, left the shock on and took the lower arm loose on the frame side. then i pulled the shock after the arm was loose. i really don't advise it, but i was pulling them to sell em. lol
After putting the front of the truck up on jackstands I pulled the shocks and sway bar off the lower control arms. Next was popping the upper ball joint out of the steering knuckle while supporting the lower control arm with a jack to release the spring tension in a slow controlled manner. Once you get the control arm down the coil will come right out with the brakes etc still intact. I cut 3 coils off, removed the bumpstop contact pad on the lower balljoint. I've got a 3" block out back and I had to cut the bumpstops down to about 1/3 so it didn't ride on them.
Thanks for all the input you guys! You all put me in the right direction of what I was going to do. What I ended up doing was undoing the swaybar and the shock. Then I put a floor jack underneath the spring on the lower control arm. Then actually unbolting the LCA from the frame (4 nuts attacted to the bolts on the frame) and then slowly put down the jack. It worked perfectly! the springs out just fine, just a little twisting and turning needed. And I didn't have to undo and ball joints! Hopes this helps some people who were stuck like me and many others! Thanks - - Jacob
the truck got slammed for sure though... I cut all of my bumpstops flush and in the front I am just almost touching the bumpstops. And in the back, 4" Lowering blocks. Haha I scraped crossmember getting out of my friends driveway! And the front camber is amazing now!! With the way the suspension is designed, you get soo much negative camber it looks and feels amazing to drive on! Still wanting to go lower without modifying the suspension too much. once I get the 205/70/14's off and put some 195/55 - 195/60 on there. Hehe More LOWW~!
wheres a pic...how low did you go? how many coils did you cut...and this might sound stupid but im new to all this...the negative camber...in what way does it feel amazing to drive on?
