I ran a 3/3 drop on factory shocks for quite a while and it did fine. Technically, anytime you change the suspension geometry of your vehicle, it might be a good idea to reassess your shock choice. However, if you are not bottoming out your suspension or shocks when you hit bumps, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. I changed mine because my truck has 200k on it, and it still had the factory shocks on it. But, I put OEM style shocks (KYB's) all the way around and it still does great.
