My uncle wants to junk his 93 4x4. but i tell him I want it. just wish it wasnt 4x4. dont really like it so high and want it to be reagular 2wd manual. does anyone know what I can do with it????
Im not really into offroading... and ya its snow but I dont really need the 4x4 for it. its more fun on my 87 anyways.... spin spin drift whooo!!!! and ya i guess I could just keep it while I worked on my 87. the only thing wrong with it is the two fenders are rusted through.
yea just keep it, trust me makes things easier. dont have to rush to get ur project done just so u can drive it to work, school or whatever the next day..
ya agreed, i just had the same problem last night, now im up at 6am trying to make my truck driveable, keep it as a Daily
Im just a little embarassed that Im not really sure how the whole 4x4 action works. I tried it out and just grinded the gears up... hehe
you need to come to a full stop. put the tranny in neutral if it has locking hubs, get out and lock them shift the transfercase to 4wd (DO NOT DO THIS ON PAVEMENT) shift back into drive or 1st now go mob over that huge bush in the old ladys yard next door. (DO NOT DRIVE IN 4WD ON PAVEMENT) to shift out do pretty much the same thing, sometimes you need to back up in a straight line 15-30ft to get the T case to shift.
4wd is really 2wd... you have a open diff up front and a open diff in back. but both drive shafts are connected without a diff. so when you go around a corner there is no slip front to back. pressure builds and BAM your Tcase explodes. as for 4wd really being 2wd that means that at any given time only 2 wheels have power unless you are not spinning any tires then both the front and rear diffs are putting power to both wheels. you get stuck in 4wd and only 1 wheel up front will spin and one in back. for that matter a 2wd is really only 1wd.
yeah, a few converting here and there.. remove transmission with the transfercase, find one that is rwd that fits in place, new driveshaft... then have fun replacing the front stuff!
