I have a 87 with the 22r. it has a weber carb and msd ignition , which are the only aftermarket mods to the motor as far as I know. it has a header and no cat with just a thrush muffler. it runs good and drives good but at idle it sounds like it has a miss or a cam. it doesn't lose any power while I drive it, doesn't bug down or cut out so I don't think it has a miss but im not sure. just wondering everyones thoughts on it. anything would be helpful, thanks
... not sure whats going on here..... so ur wondering -because it sounds like it has a "heavy lope" at idle, u think it might have a cam or a misfire? in my understanding, a misfire would most likely lead to a loss of power situation. maybe u lucked out and it already has a cam in it
I have a weber and a glasspack.... It sounds and runs good... Your idle circuit is different from your power circuit in the carb. Could be running rich and missing at idle and it will run just fine... and sound cammed, lol
Tacobo..... I was wondering if yall would have an idea what it was bc I don't think it has a cam. Yoda guy... have a easy way to explain how to fix that if it is that?
Well, there are a lot of things that could cause missing or a rough idle.... I'd start with adjusting the mixture screw on the carb and remember how many turns, in case it doesn't. Help. Check your timing. Check for vacuum leaks. And then basic tune up parts or more diagnosing, I don't know your abilities/tools. If your cheap and have tools and a multimeter. You can pull plugs, check em, clean and gap them. Pull plug wires and check the resistance. Spray carb cleaner around and listen for vacuum leaks. Rebuild the carburetor, etc... could be a lot of things, provided you have an actual problem to fix. Videos help, if possible?
any update on this? I'm having what may be the same problem, a really rough idle that almost stalls sometimes when I come to a stop. I was already considering doing a carb rebuild so if that's the case it would be cool to know. @YOguyDA how exactly do you check for vacuum leaks? you said spray carb cleaner and listen but what am I listening for exactly?.. Is it pretty obvious or do you have to listen pretty carefully? Thanks!!
Start by taking off your air cleaner and giving the carb a little burst of carb cleaner...if it smooths out, there is a good chance it's running lean. A vacuum leak can cause a "lean miss". Spraying around the intake, carb and vacuum hoses, you will be listening for any change in rpm.
I just buy the cheapest stuff. Usually the house brand, depending on where it's purchased. Vacuum leak is one of many possibilities, so start a new post, if you don't figure out your problem
