New to the 4x4 Scene here, just curious to who makes a good lift kit for my 86 Standard Cab? I dont want to buy something thats gonna break on me when Im out in the boonies, lol. I actually got a chance to go up into the Mountains with a group of buddies, for being stock she doesnt do to bad in the snow, minus the getting high center on a snow berm factor.
ebay has 10 inch lift rear springs for 300 bucks right now.. for the front you will need to do a solid axle swap probably to make the front match the rear
I thought about the solid axle swap. There is a couple of my buddies that have done the swap, it seems like a good idea, not just for more lift but reliability? Is 4" the biggest you can go with IFS, besides a body lift?
there might be a 6inch plus a 2 inch coil bucket spacer plus 3 inch body lift ? look on ebay.... best bet is solid axle bro... cant go wrong with it and you can lift it as much as you want with the right springs, and blocks...
Yea the more I think about it, the more Im leaning towards a solid axle conversion, which in price compared to a IFS lift, isnt a bad idea. I just need to find an axle, lol.
junkyard hunting I went to this little shop and asked them how much it would be to take a solid axle i got from the junk yard and to rebuild it and they told me about 100$...so its not that much
31" tires, no lift, sliders, skid plates, and a rear locker with a lsd in the front will get you virtually anywhere...... sas are cool but unless you rock crawl or want to look cool they really aren't that big of a deal. Also IFS is more comfy for the road and most trails. For most wheeling ifs is fine. Don't bother with lifting ifs stuff though, it lowers the diff and will cause more stuff to break.
On 86-95 4WD Toyota trucks, the lift kits are called bracket lifts. The biggest one out their is Superlift which is 5" but the most you want to go on these trucks is 4". The IFS lift is cheaper than a SAS by far but the SAS is more for real hardcore off road. If you want to lift the truck so it has a little more clearance, the best lift is a ball joint spacer, body lift, some 33's and some gearing. You can find 4.88 gears for these trucks at junkyards or other sites. All of it is bolt in stuff to if you get your diff's from factory equipped Toyota trucks with 4.88 gears. Usually the 4Runners have them with the 31" tire option or the trucks. The gear codes is what you have learn. Yotatech has all the info you need. Also your truck has torsion bars not coil springs in the front. James
