Hey everyone, I just got a 77 longbed 5speed with a HUGE camper on the back... just took it off (crazy heavy leaking 70s wooden one) but now the rear suspension is up about 3" or so. I really want to lift up the front to level it out (coils). Any suggestions? I know I can do some lowering blocks in the back but the damn thing handles like a boat. So front springs maybe would help my handling too, right? or lowering blocks to level it and thicker sway bar in the front and add a sway in the rear? Plus I'm on a major budget and have little time to work on it. TL;DR: Easiest and cheapest way to level and get some better handling. Suggestions? I will try to get a pic soon. Thanks.
Count your leaf springs in the back previous owner may have added some helper leafs to help with the extra load . If that's the case removing them should bring the truck closer to original ride height ..
Well yea kinda . These trucks were never on rails to begin with they usually take some aftermarket goods to make them fell more stable . Check to see if you have a front sway bar .. There are several aftermarket sway bars available some for towing and hauling and some for performance
They make a rubber ring that wraps between the front coils to raise them up a bit. Jack it up to expand the spring and install it. Theyre like $6 each. Should bring the nose up 2" to match. Or remove some leafs to lower the back. I cant tell if you wanna go higher or lower, but those are two options to be level at stock or lifted height. Or you can cut the coils and remove some springs and add a lowering block for a nice street stance.
Actually the coil spacers don't sound like a terrible idea. I do go camping a lot because I rock climb, so leveling the front up would be good for some light trails. I do love the look of these trucks sitting low. Since the spacers are easy I'll see how long I can put up with it at stock height, then maybe do a static drop. It is my daily too so I want to find a happy medium if possible. Thanks
