Looking to get a DSLR. Ive messed with a Canon before and i liked it. The Nikon i used the other day was about the same, just a few differences.

Is brand a big deal? Obviously Features are different but what should i look out for? Need pros and cons im open to all opinions. Oh and im lookin to spend hopefully no more than $800

I shoot with a Nikon D5000. You can't beat Nikon's overall performance, but Canon has some really nice features too. I've used both and there are points I like better with both lines, but in the end, I choose Nikon. Their flashes are superior.

Canon is & has been my choice for many years now.
    Had a AE1-A1- EOS-3 & now using a EOS-350D .
Also a Canon Power Shot SD1200IS
I think the Canon lens are the best, & use a EF28-135 IS USM & EF100-400 IS USM
The built in flash don't carry very far ,so I use a Speed Lite 550EX.
Would like to get a wider angle lens for car show shooting.
Like said the lens are pricy, but get a good one & you will not be sorry.

I've had a T1i... gawd it was perfect fit for me... until it was stolen... :tears:

Now my sister and I share a T2i, which just steps up above. Both the T1i and T2i have video, 720 and 1080p respectively, with the latter being the T2i. The T1i can do it, cept it's limited to 24fps on the 1080p. The T2i got the goodies upgrade and has 18mp and 1080p@30fps.
If you're willing to spend on the T2i, grab the T3i if you'd like for a swivel screen. Look at the 60D if you wanna step way up.

Some say jumping into DSLR's is big business, but I learned quick with the T1i myself. play with manual mode and you'll get pretty far. Read online and it helps too.

You can find used T1i's and T2i's around the $700-800 I believe.

and what Lit said, it has a lot to do with lens. expensive lens have higher quality glass. Tamron has been working with amazing stuff lately. Lens with image stabilizers are also nice, get some if you'd like. an a cheap tripod that works well always goes far.

In the end, get yourself to play with some nikons and canons on the same level, feel for yourself. I've been using Canon's since it's been running in the family for a long time.

Don't know for sure, but read this in many camera tech articles.
And look to see what the Top photographers use!
    National Geographics is the formost.
Other Camera's are widely used, but Canon is there most of the time!
