Does anyone happen to have pics of the port work done to an LCE Stage 5 cylinder head? I'm interested in going to that level, but can't afford or justify the $2000 price tag for a single cylinder head. The valves and seats are fairly reasonable (price wise) for their size.
I was looking through their catalog last night and I landed on that section and wondered the same thing. I understand that a massive amount of time has to go into that head but for that money I could drop a turbo 2rz in and make twice the horse power. I love myself some r series engine but the reality is a 5k "race" engine makes the same power as a slightly tweaked rz series from a junkyard that'll only set you back $1500 at most.
A friend of mine told me that a few years back he called and asked about it, basically it's all their fancy valves and springs and stuff with a ported and flow benched casting.. it's not that special especially if you have a good eye with porting or know someone who does.
I used the stage 5 springs, valves and such in my 20r head on my hybrid motor. I probably imparted each port anywhere from 1/4 to a 1/2 inch. Was it worth it. Ehhh. A thousand bucks in the head does sound like a lot. But sounding like a pissed off chainsaw Everytime I drive it....totally worth it. If you need pics, go they my build thread. i ported my own head, using the pics from the old catalog. came out pretty good. took out a whole lotta material. pretty close to a stage 5. i just enlarged and smoothed out the runner. gasket portmatched the opening, and the valve bowl ( the pocket right behind the head of the valve). that and the 1.5mm larger valves and the dual valve spring set up LCE sells. came out pretty good.
Awesome. That's what I was thinking. The biggest difference between the port job I did and theirs, is that they removed most of the web that IS the swirl port. That and they use the 48mm intake and 44mm exhaust valves. I think I'm basically at the stage 3 head now. And White Trash, I totally agree. But I'm waist deep into this now and want to see what she'll do, if I can control the budget.
I understand how easy it is to get sucked into the money pit. I've done it soooo many times on wheeling rigs, rc crawlers etc. I'm at my limit on my trucks engine now. Any more cash spent on the project will be on parts that can be transferred to a tacoma which is the next step in performance for me.
My head turned out great flows a ton up top only issue with there massive valves is the combustion chamber will need to be re worked sadly the stock seat could take a 1.5 mill over size valve easly and i still not sure why they don't make a set. Its all in my build thread
ohhhh..... nah man, they have it. i installed them on my head. uses the factory original valve seats.
I have them. But, the stock seats have to be milled out (through bored) to take advantage of them. If you don't your throat opening is still limiting air flow. Keep in mind though, that bigger valves make more power up top, and less torque down low because of intake air speeds. Yes, they breathe better up top, but there's a trade off.
I would have to disagree. Even though lower rpm feels soft compared to up higher, I think an engine pulls just as good as stock in the same rpm band. My theory is based on the massive stroke a 22r has. Now if it was a gutless Honda motor, maybe, but not in the 22r. My truck can pull in high gear easily from off idle rpms. But then again it only has a comp 280 cam in it.
Budget? What is this budget you speak of? I've never heard it used with custom vehicles except when "I've gone WAY over-" is used before it.

Thats why hogging your head is not the best thing to do thus what I did to mine and keeping the exhuast ports some what tame but some say if you have a hair dryer on there it does not hurt much but i still think that is wroung. lol just went on there site still dont see these valves maybe i have them all ready lol i just found how the injectore sprayed at the valve was down right horrid wich i fix and kepted the shape on the intake the same but just a bit more opend at the start to retain air speed
