ok well it's all done minus a few things like relocating my fuel filter (was mounted on my old intake manifold) and bending the intake support so I can bolt it up. First thing I noticed.......way better throttle response, more power at higher rpms (significant amount), and much much much much better idle control and behavior when hot/cold, also cleaner engine bay. All in all awesome and easy mod. i'll do a write up at some point this week or coming weekend. I have a thermodynamics, diff equ, calc physics, and energy storage system tests this week. Plus I'm manninng a booth at an energy conference on sat so I'm a wee busy this week.

I WILL do a writeup though...........learned some helpful tips.

so um ... is the presumed minimal horsepower worth the work?

my 4runner has a new motor (along with clutch, starter, ignition components etc) with oversized intake and exhaust valves, crane cam, 9.5:1 compression ratio, flow matched/cleaned injectors, and a high flow head. I also have a flowmaster 40 series, 2 to 2 1/4" exhaust and no cat.

So on mine it probably made a much larger difference than on a stock engine. The engine came alive with this swap so for me - extremely worth it. It also eliminated the air valve which is a pos and mine was having issues causing numerous problems. It was worth it just to eliminate that system.

I think the largest hp gain comes from the fact that the egr port in the intake manifold does not cover 1/4 of plenum inlet like it does on the old style manifold. The gain in hp for myself is significant over my prior set up. By far the best mod I've done on this truck.

There's also the fact that the cold idle and subsequent idle down as it warms up is 100% better since my air valve was dying. It also eliminated a few hoses which is always good.

btw this swap is virutally no work..........longest part was cleaning up the new intake manifold and throttle body. Could do this in less than 1hr start to finish with everything good to go.

did you gasket match the intake all up inside at all? i did on my 20R setup which is very similar to what all youve done and gained tons of midrange and throttle responce

AFTER (ignore the nasty paint from the previous owner of the intake. I cleaned the inside but not so much on the outside yet since I ran out of time)

nope removed all that crap.......... that stuff didn't do anything (probably broken).

Both vsv's gone, bsv gone, metal vaccum lines gone, egr gone, etc etc all I have left is charcoal canister and fpr.

that does look alot cleaner. and i meant did you run a flap disc inside the new one at all to smooth them down, or do a gasket matching since you have alot of other mods?

nope...... should have but didn't have enough time. Had to get this on due to the air valve malfunctioning. The head has no gasket overlap over the ports though.......

someday I might take the hole thing off and smooth it but for now it's fine...

really a header, supra afm, intake battery swap, and some large intake pipe is next in order..........after regearing for the 31's and installing a afr gauge so I don't lean out too much since I'm pushing it already.
