OK, I haven't posted in a while, but I'm back now.

He's got a straight body other than some rust in the floor boards (not terrible, but bad enough) Anyway, after workimg hard around the farm I'm pulling his engine out and giving new life to the little guy. The crank was trashed so I bought a good crank from a friend, it'll be in soon.

The build is still young, but I'll start off with where I am now. There are a ton of goodies in store and I promise it's gonna be a good build so stay tuned...

    OK, last day of work:

The poor little guy was loaded heavy enough that I could lift the front end a couple of inches off the ground by grabbing the front bumper and straining:lol:

    So, out with the old:

Time to get dirty and start tearing apart some filth! I should have taken a pic of the main bearings, but I was covered in filth. Let me say that with 20 years of engine building experience I've NEVER seen mains this trashed:brickknock:

After a half a day of scrubbing, wire brushing, pressure blasting and chemicals known by the state of California to cause cancer, birth defect and slurred speech I finally had a clean block. I wanted to paint it something besides black just to show off all my hard work :meemee: I ran down to the farm supply and they did not have a nice dark red, but they did have a Massey Ferguson red that will work. (It's 70 miles round trip to the nearest real town so running to town for the paint I wanted was out of the question) Next week I'll be in town and then I'll grab a can of black paint for the brackets, pulleys, engine moutns, etc, but for now here is how it sits:

The engine already had a weber conversion and hooker header, but the list of things sitting on the shelf waiting are:

Edelbrock black finish 10" open air filter
    Stage one RV camshaft
    Taylor 8mm wires
    K&N Valve Cover breater filter
    2-1/2" exhaust with Dynomaxx muffler

That's about all for now. Stay tuned for more....

Well, I'm going pretty much full rebuild except I'm only replacing things that actually need it. The pistons and bores both mic'd within spec so I'll be honing and putting new rings in. Replacement crankshaft, new bearings (of course) new pretty much everything except pistons I guess.

So far I havn't added up my total outlay, but I'll do that sometime soon. I've been buying stuff from a half dozen different sources so it'll take a bit of digging. Off the top of my head I'd say I'll have about a grand into it including the weber, hooker header, dynomax exhaust, clutch kit and complete (almost) engine rebuild with RV camshaft. It may come in at less than that, but I'm guessing so far. Basically it's about two months payment on a new 2WD compact pickup ;)

I also put new brakes and shocks on it while I'm at it and went with good parts, not the cheapest I could find.

I'll have some more updates tomorrow. Thanks for your interest.

Since you have the motor apart, you should try to find a 20r head (if you have the old style 22r block) and/ or port and polish the head with over sized valves and upgraded valve springs. I shouldve done the over sized valves when I did my rebuild. So far I have a 22re bored .040 over, port and polished head, stage 1 trd cam, lce header, crane cams/ msd ignition kit, taylor 8mm wires. Besides the rookie mistake of not getting the oversized valves, Im very happy with the outcome! Good luck on the build, its look goood so far!

Nahhh, no 20R head conversion at this time. The head on it is in perfect shape, valve seats and valves sit pretty and I'm not out to make a hotrod much, just freshen it up a bit and make a good driver / work truck ;)

I did get the engine bay freshened up a bit. You can see the before pic in my first post, here is the after:

I also replaced the generic mirrors with proper ones made for the truck, much better view now. The shocks were originals so they got tossed and a set of heavy monroe gas shocks up front and monroe air shocks in the back (it is a work truck afterall)

More to come this week as the big brown trucks roll in full of goodies:D

I decided to repaint the block and put a true red on it, have the block all clean and pretty and prepped, new crankshaft and a ton of goodies waiting for me to get teh time to assemble. Hopefully I'll have update with good pics in the next day or two
