http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/pts/2005099871.html mine **** the bed, and instead of getting mine rebuilt its cheaper for me to pick this one up if it is. thanks guys,
If it's out of a truck it's probably a W56. They came in cars, Celicas and Supras. I don't think they put 'em in the trucks. I would guess it's not.
I have been looking at the difference between an R154 and a W58 lately because I may be getting an 88 Supra. And that does look like a W58 to me. But I could be wrong so be careful. But judging by all the other pictures I've seen it looks the same. It looks like a W58 to me.
You do know that a rebuild kit for a dub58 is like 430 bucks... Probibly some 5m supra trans with 242K miles just cleaned up. Sorry to be the pessimistic, but ive gotten burned on "rebuilt" parts from private, (non-buisness) people. Sorry about the rant. Buyer Beware is all...
my trans shop quoted me 500 max to reubild mine, if this was rebuilt, 350 would be a good deal saving me the monies.
Save your monies and head out to your local salvage yard... You can pick and pull one for $135-$180... Any Celica 82-85 with a 22r is a drop inn, just double check the build plate... The trans you posted is a W58 from a supra or SC300 so you'll need the shifter tower that it originally came with. That said, you'd definetly have to cut your floor to get it to work for you... Notice on one of those pics where the shifter pivot tip goes is pretty far forward, tells me it's a linkaged type shifter... I know coz I'm dealing with one right now and swapping tail sections from a Celica W58 just doesn't work like some say it would without some modifiying. Not worth the trouble... Now, I'm thinking it would of been easier to just cut my damn floor!
i already have my w58 in. i had to cut my floor but it fits. i got it from a yard, threw it in and blew it up maybe 5 months of daily driving. if i got this one i would transfer the shifter...down here transmissions cost 350. doesnt matter if its a 4 speed, 5 speed w58 whatever, the junkyards all radio each other and sell the transmissions for the same.
