Is it possible to see reliable and increased gains in HP if I bore out and polish the intake manfild and Plenium of a 22re?

i did on my 20r manifold with a weber/header/other mods and it had a huge midrange gain and a bit more power throughout. id say do it. gasket match the head mating side, and smooth out the runners. if there are areas of restriction, get them larger too. i have a write up if you are looking for ideas.

i also heard there are 2 RE manifold setups, the later style being better. so id start with one of those if you dont already have it. there was a recent write up on the swap.

smoothing out the tracts and allowing the air to move more freely will definitely provide you gains.
Some member on YotaScene had shortened intake runners, I bet that'd help alot on the higher rpms.

Larger throttlebodies also assist in easier breathing.

remember, air is light, fluffy, and easy for our lungs. but when it comes to engines, its a thick and heavy liquid.

lc engineering carries some stuff if you wanna go that far too. i say port it out, sand blast the insides, and maybe buy the throttle body spacer from lc. its $80. oh, get some black pvc and open up that air tube too. kregen carries an adapter for a cone filter. it probably isnt very effective without a box keeping the hot air away but it sounds cool

or an exhaust shop can bend up some large tubing for the main pipe. the nice setup is to switch the airbox and battery on the EFI trucks. so it doesnt cross the hot radiator and soak up heat. you might be able to adapt a supra throttle body onto it. i know the AFM is a common swap, since it is larger. but every little addition should help.

just cut the wires near the plug on the AFM, then one by one, add a length of wire from where the loom ended to the AFM on the other side when its mounted. run them how you want it loomed up. that wire loom tubing works nicely. do one color at a time, and solder/crimp each one. then do the next wire. little time consuming but it doesnt get mixed up that way. i have a list of what AFMs to look for. lemme find it.

after that, i just get a new positive cable or will the old one reach? and have you heard of anyone failing smog because of it?

as long as it looks legit and has stock smog stuff it should be fine. and it wont reach. just run a longer positive to the starter. run the neg that did go to the battery to the frame/body. then make a new neg to the frame and body from the battery. it should tie it all together nicely. i tell people you cant have too many grounds.

There are 2 styles ,but inter changing is a problem as of the fittings for smog.
You should consider a big bore throttle body also!

Great info, I guess we just need to locate the write up on this, maybe this should be a sticky? Anyways can anyone confirm there are two different types of pleunim used? or are all 22 re intake systems the same?

there is a late model plenum with a straight throttle body and an early plenum with an angled down throttle body

What is the benefits of swapping to them, if all the emissions stuff gets removed and its simplified. Basically, what internal and/or flow rate benefits are there?
