ok, so i am pretty much ready to tackle this on and attempt to install the downey headers i got for the truck. my truck as some of you may not know has the 3VZ 3.0 V6.

ive done some research on the install and such but most.... or i should say ALL the threads i ever found, were done on the 4wd trucks. i never found any done on 2wd trucks with the v6 as its a pretty rare deal to do em in these it seems.

i checked LCE's web site and their installation instructions are as vague as it gets on taking the manifolds off.... so, has anyone else here ever done them on a v6 equipped 2wd truck that might give me some insight on what i may encounter or need to do in order for this install to go smooth?

I also had a 3.0 2WD but all the research i did prior buying some suggested it was like installing long stacks on a 22r. So you might have to shorten them at the bend so they have ground clearance, but i never had a chance to install them myself.

Glad to see that someone else is attempting this. You can go look at my build thread (Bama Build) and see somewhat of how I did mine. I can get you pictures of whatever you need as well. Its no fun that's for sure but man do they sound beast when its done. Is your truck bagged or lowered?

Ok so I went and looked at your build thread....love the truck by the way. Heres the problem that your going to run into. The way the headers kick down....they will be right on top of or rubbing the torsion bars. Im baggin my truck so I took them out but you may have to clearance the collector so that it wont rub.

    yes... key word "attempt" lol

it is lowered... and by that i mean slammed around 8" all around. these are downey headers and from what i could tell, they collect earlier on the way down and do not have the lower bend that ive seen on all the other trucks... witch is why im guessing they will be ok?

im hoping that i wont run into too big an issue trying to fit them in... i know its gonna be difficult but i hope to power on through it ok. ill make sure to take lots o pictures to document the process as best as i can. wish me luck.

Well if thats the case then you should be fine. Definitely take a lot of pictures so we can all see the progress. Just a suggestion....change out the PCV, PCV grommet, and valve cover gaskets while your in there. Clean out the intake manifold while you have it out and if it was me.....id do the EGR/PAIR delete.....I did the hardline delete as well and it really cleaned things up.

The hardest part of it all is cutting out the crossover. That thing was an SOB on mine. Let me know if I can help in any way!

yea, im in process of collecting everything together. im gonna try and do everything starting tomorrow since ill have a spare vehicle over the weekend to drive. ill be taking pictures and document all that had to be done to fit them. im just praying they fit without the lower torsions being in the way as ive seen others have issues with on the 2wd's...

all ya have to know is the y pipe will have to be modded since the t bars will be in the way and it tends to hand low

if you have welder you will be fine ps wrap your starter or header starter don't like the heat

and wail your there might as well remove all the egr stuff makes life easy when that ****'s all gone

I couldn't agree more with you Nash. I would definitely wrap the starter and the fuel/brake lines since they run so close to the header.

I was surprised at how much cleaner the engine bay looked with all that EGR/PAIR crap out of the way. Seems to run a lot smoother now as well.

    Unbolt old manifolds.
    Test fit the headers.
    Lower truck check ground clearance.
Cut/trim massage the piping Into place.
    Tack Weld new flanges.
Run new piping from passengerside to driverside.
Tuck new piping so its not dragging.
Once its all tacked into place remove and weld accordingly.

Give or take 1 beer for safety reasons you know. Lol

i gotta keep the egr stuff since i live in a smog controlled county. i may see about removing it in between smog times. i will be wrapping the starter and lines too.

gotcha... im crossing my fingers and hope that this wont take too long. i also am in hopes that since the motor has been replaced recently i wont run into too many issues with stuck or stubborn bolts and nuts.

ive seen that some people remove the intake manifolds, the steering shaft and even the lower torsions sometimes.... we shall see how much i need to take out. the only thing im still kinda curious on is WHERE i will run my cross over section... before or after the transmission xmember... its got me stumped but ill figure it out once i get to that point...
