So I bought a steering column off a 85 Toyota pickup to replace the one in my 82 Toyota pickup. The plugs are different coming off the ignition switch. Could I buy a new ignition switch for the correct year or do I need to splice wires. I’m new to this stuff so take it easy on me

You can use a multimeter to check continuity to the wires to determine kinda what goes where. The ignition switch wires themselves should be pretty easy to follow as they should be the same colors

No splicing necessary, Map the wires and put them into the '82 plug. The spade slides will come out easily enough. You can depress the locking tab on the spade with a tiny flat screwdriver, or any tool that can fit beside the slide in the plug body.

Unless you need to lengthen the wire, cutting your harness is never a good idea.
