So I just bought my first Toyota and I've got a few issues I hope you guys can help me figure out. The really important one right now is the erratic idle.it idles a little high for a while when you first start it. But after about 2 minutes running it idles up to about 1800 rpm and back to idle. Im taking a guess and assuming its an idle air control valve but does anyone have any similar problems they have had like this? Its a 91 with a 22re 5 speed

On the tps. One of the terminals. Check and adjust your tps...Google it there's lots of walk throughs.

But one less labor intensive check to eliminate a bad iac...take the intake elbow off the throttle body. See the large hole on the bottom corner? Cover it with a piece of duct tape. Read install the elbow and crank the engine...let it warm up just don't goose the throttle or you may suck the tape in. But since your issue is at idle you shouldn't need to worry about that. If the idle stays consistent. Then yes it's the iac under the throttle body.

It's a thermo spring type setup. Works like a thermostat. Has coolant running to it which is supposed to shut the opening off when the engine is at temp. But they do go out. My last one did and I just made a block off and eliminated it lol.

Well I looked over the truck and found it was low on water and gurgling it. Added water and let it run to try and get the air out and it seems to run fine now

pull the idle screw all the way out and check the O-ring for cracks. u may have over looked this part. i've seen this cause a surging idle. its worth a check.
