Is there a way to tell from the outside of the axle if you have an 8" diff or a 7.5? im looking at a couple diff here in SD and im not 100% which one I have. Also if they are interchangeable in the housings that would make life easier too..thanks everyone edit: and my axle was swapped so i dont know any info about what truck the axle came out of
when your looking at the 8" housing the two most top bolts are at the same level, on the 7.5 there is only 1 bolt centered at the top.
Would this be a G or F? Looks like the top bolt is in the center... This one G? Hope you guy don't mind me using your pics... Just thought it would help clear up some ????'s...
I LOOK AT THE DRAIN PLUGS.WHEN LOOKIN FROM REAR OF THE TRUCK THE DRAIN PUG'S ON THE LEFT IS AN 8"R THE ONE THATS ON THE RIGHT IS A 7.5"R ONTHE 2WD'S 4WD'S ARE ALL WAS AN 8" ON THE REARS.THE FRONT IFS GREARS "RING AND PINION" CAN ALSO BE USED ON THE 7.5" 3RD MEMBER CARRIERS.
