hello everyone just got an 88 couple weeks ago and am getting into the whole toyota old school truck scene. the only thing is i dont know how to lower or raise my front suspension. I've read i gotta crank the torsion bars is this correct? and if so how? pics would be awesome. or if there is a nother thread that discusses how to do a front suspension torsion crank that would be perfect.

First off welcome to the site and the world or lowered toyotas. The front is free and pretty easy. If you go to the back of the transmission under the truck there is a crossmember. In the middle area there are two holes with a small arm and a bolt. You loosen the 2 nuts on that apart and out the top on an inch or two from the end of the threads. Then putting a wrench on the lower nut you rachet/impact gun the bolt to where the two nuts are close to each other. If you set that tab about even with the opening in the crossmember it'll get you a nice stance up front. It may require a little fender hammering inside the wheel well. And removing any bolts that stick in from the engine room side. Same with the ecu bolts. Grind any you have to leave smooth without taking the tab it holds off. If the tire hits, you'd want it to be something smooth. The way I find where to keep hammering is a combo of making sure my hand fits around the tire and letting it rub. It'll make marks inside. Hammer the marks. Lol. You'll probably want to remove or trim your bump stops as well. Good luck and post some pictures.

Make sure you introduce yourself in the "Introduce" section along with your new ride and such. Glad you're joining the crew. Lowering these trucks doesnt get any easier though. Just like ^^ he said.

    Jack.
    Two Jack stands.
    Extension rod for ratchet.
    22mm Socket
    7/8th's Wrench or 22mm wrench.
    PB Blaster.
a Dictionary of cusswords (basics, Damn!)
    Good gloves.
    Time.
    Blocks of wood.
    Tape measure

Drive your truck up blocks of wood so its up. place jack under front cross member below motor.
ebrake on vehicle, put in gear.
    gloves on.
tape measure ready. Jack up vehicle to reduce strain on torsion bars. (so your vehicle still rests on teh blocks.
Jackstands under the frame on the sides below the doors. adjust as neccessary.
PB blast the **** out of those Torsion adjusting bolts.
Bolt has two nuts each. Top is lock.
place your 7/8ths or 22mm wrench on it, place it against something. Get your 22mm socket ratchet with teh extension bar. With the palm pressing the ratchet against the bolt on the bottom, make sure you dont strip this bolt. AT ALL.
USe your other limb to turn this bolt counter clockwise.
This will take some work and effort... believe me.
you'll break that locknut loose... finally eh?

well, spin that lock nut til you have 2 inches of thread left on that bolt.
Then place wrench on adjusting nut.
then repeat process of breaking it loose and loosen bolt til the adjust nut reaches the lock nut.

    do for other side.

your choice if you wanna do the B/J flip.

Here are some ways to lower your truck for free:

To remove the middle leaf from the leaf springs:

    http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t161887.html

    Ball joint flip:

    http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/sho...all+joint+flip

Torsion bar adjustment (I know this was already discussed in detail but this thread has some nice pics):

    http://www.off-road.com/trucks4x4/ar....jsp?id=398514

You will want to trim the bumpstops and get some stiff lowering shocks or it will be a really rough ride. You also might want blocks for more drop in the rear but the middle leaf removal link covers that.
