you can get a good reman longblock for around 800 with exchange (core)

    around here anyways.....

2 grand is a hell of allot...... unless you took it to a repair shop that is charging you 1000 for labor. :looney:

yup...... of course, depending on where yer at and available help it may reflect cost. if you are capable of doing it yourself, maybe have a buddy or two come over, and have a engine hoist, have at it!

me personally, i can drop a motor in and out and have it running by 1 to 1 1/2 days. (given food drink and bs parts run breaks) :D

man I dunno how drunk you are when you swap motors but it takes me less then an hour to take out my engine and about an hour as well to get it back running in the truck.. lol.. I only have 1 vacumm line,2 fuel, radiator, driveshaft, ignition, and 1 ground lol.... but yeah stock, or close to stock take forever to pull...It also helps that my entire intake and exaust will come out with the motor....

A remanufactured long block runs $1500-1800, so $2000 installed is a real good price.
A remanned short block, costs about half that, but with a cracked head and the other problems you listed, you need a long block.

    (copied from oahus thread)
For 1200 I could have a whole new longblock shipped to me.
timing kits usually run around $100 for most engines. Grab a chiltons/haynes/etc work over the course of a saturday.

For 1200 I could do a 5.3 v-8 from a GM swap completed or at least VERY close.

DUDE ! The chain is VERY simple on the 22r...i mean VERY...i did mine for the first time and took me an hour to complete...i figured it would be hard, but its really not if you mark everything and have a good timing light... i installed new guides and chain... for next to nothing.. and its about 18 bolts to remove... save your money and look up how to change it...simple hand tools and you can do it...
