ok, so i need to replace my front main oil seal and to get to it you gotta pull off the crank pulley, I put her in gear and she still spins !?!?!

my retard friend was helping me pull the trenny to replace the rear main seal and I guess he pulled off the slave cylinder so it started spraying fluid... I put it back together but is it still good ? I bought a new one, just have not changed it yet... But I bled it and its got gooood pressure now... so idk... what should the cylinder look like when i press in my clutch ? It pushes out longer and when i let go it comes back in ? someone told me that was backwards but IDK!! any clue on that or how to get that friggin crank pulley off ???

If the slave cylinder blew the piston out and you got it back together and its not leaking, chances are it'll work fine.
The crank pulley bolt can be a pain, the easiest way is to get a breaker bar, a 19mm 6 point socket, disable the ignition so it won't start, pull coil wire, unplug distributor, ect.
put the socket on the nut, put the breaker bar against the bottom of the frame rail on the passenger side or on top of the frame rail on the drivers side, stay clear of it while keeping it in place, and have a friend tap the key like trying to start the engine, in neutral of course, "POP" it breaks it loose with ease. Once the bolt is out the pulley should slide off pretty easy, sometimes a light tapping will help break it loose, but it should slide off without having to beat the snot out of it. If the pulley seal surface is grooved it may need sleeved.

For pulling the crank pulley you need a puller. The pulley just goes onto the end of the crank and there is a keyway that keeps it from spinning. What you do is find a puller(can usually rent them at a parts store) and remove the bolts. Then you use the bolts from the puller and mount it to the pulley. You'll figure it out once you see the puller.

As far as the slave cylinder it sounds like you might still have air in the system. Either that or it was put back together wrong.

The pulley is a non interference fit, thats why it has the bolt holding it on, done a heck of a lot of them over the years and never had to resort to any pullers yet.

well crap all good answers but I dunno ?....

everything is disconected, I was going to pull the motor but I changed my mind, I dont have the money to drop the 2jz in yet.

I bled the system till just about all the old fluid was gone and it was all fresh.

a gear puller ? someone send me a link so I know what im talking about when I got to the store.

bro just do it the cheaper and careful way. get a 2x2 or a 2x4 wedge it at an angle on the back side of the pulley and hammer slowly. i never use a puller but it is the safest and better/right way to do it. but in your case money is tight so try and use the wood and hammer and just tap a little at a time and on side to side motion.

are you still trying to get the bolt off the crank pulley?

If so take a 19mm socket put it on a long breaker bar, put it on the crank bolt and place the breaker bar against the frame rail. Get in the truck and just "bump" the starter by barely trying to start the truck. Viola instant crank bolt removal.

Also if you continue to do it by hand make sure ebrake is on and the truck is in 5th or 4th gear. In first gear it will just spin.

oops just saw that the starter method was already posted

hit the pulley with a rubber mallet a couple of times and it will come right off

well took all day but I got the rear main seal replaced, which it looked like it wasnt even leaking so maybe it was the oil pan ??? I got a new clutch, slave, pressure plate, throw out bearing.. the clutch is made by zoom and I picked it up for 100 bucks brand new.. I will get the started put back on tomorrow and try it, but it took all day to get the tranny off because of rain and on hidden bolt....

so tomorrow - front seal, new belts, valve cover back on, and about everything else left to put back on after getting halfwar through pulling the motor...
