Hi guys signed up about a week ago hoping to learn more about the old school trucks. Came across a 70 hilux about 2 weeks ago and went to go see it last week Wednesday. Was supposed to go pick it up this past Wednesday but the owner had to work. Hope to pick it up tomorrow (christmas day) or the day after (Sunday). Been sitting for about 6 months or so and doesn't want to idle, hope its just some bad gas. Really excited about getting it, I've been waiting pretty much 2 weeks for it and was super bummed when I went to go pick it up and he was working.

Well Figure I should give some history on me now. I live in a small town on the Big Island of Hawaii called Hilo. Old imports are really big in hawaii so they can be hard to come by. If you do find 1 its either pretty beat and rusted or really expensive or both. I'm not new to old school cars owned/worked on a few. Between my brother and I we have owned. 1970 510, 2-1974 corolla, 1985 corolla GTS, 1983 4x4 hilux, 1977 celica LB, 1989 celica alltrac, 1983 starlet and a few not really worth mentioning. I've owned 4age 16&20 valves, 2tc, 2tg, l16, l18, 3sgte, 20r, 22r, 3tc.

Oh and BTW I tend to babble so dont mind me.

Don't know where I'm goin with the rn10 but I know I want to eventually bagg it. Not sure what I want to put in it yet. Still have my 2tg, can get a vg30et, 4.3l chevy. Was really pondering a rotary but not sure. Want to stay toyota but if something comes up hey who knows.

If anyone has any opinions on what to do to the truck please chime in. Oh and any tips on what to do first in my mods (was thinking on doing the front disk conversion first thing but having second thoughts). Any one with a tailgate?

Well nice meeting you all and its really great reading
    mike

Welcome to the site.In my opinion I would definitly bag it and then body drop to the rocker (stock floor preferably) the very first and foremost thing, that way your suspension is all done, it's as low as possible and you can raise it up and drive at a decent ride height an then drop her down all the way and then you can start to concentrate on the cosmetic things. Make sure its all done right the first time Thats what I did with my 82 and I love it. Have ran into 1 problem recently, got new Cando ups and low arms for xmas/b-day, got them on the other day and because of the shape vs stock arms and less weight my front end it went up 1" bag mounts need to be raised and my steering shaft is rubbing on the top arm, needs a new smaller extension piece welded in, not happy at all but hopefully soon to be fixed next week.

The best of truck with your truck and enjoy it
    Hope my advice was helpful

Yeah def want to bag it as soon as possible!! Mostly debating on if I should work on the converting the front brakes first. Thanks for all the tips though and hope you dont run into more issues fixing your suspension. bummer that it made you have to do all that extra work. Hope its worth it!

I really want to go get it tomorrow! would be a nice xmas present!

Ho nice truck. How much you picked that up for? Hard to find one down here, must be even harder to find that one. I hope to build one of those one day. 5" block. C-notch, cut coil and be slammed. CHEE

yep pretty much all there. Blew a hard brake line, may have a blown head gasket, and melted the prestine pass. side mudflap on the way home. Mostly bummed about the mudflap more than anything.

Picked it up for less than a gran. pretty much all I can say hehehe. actually seen another one primered in a garage today! Missed out on a parts one earlier this year for pretty much free.

Gonna try fix what I need to and do a small static drop and save up for the rest.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

Yeah not bad. in the usual spots under the bed rails by the hooks and the seam on the bed. The previous owner replaced the areas under the door and some of the floor. Theres some rust holes in the bed. But the roof is straight and most everything else is there. I gotta post more pics. Oh and there is a 84 style tailgate on it.

Started taking off the bed today and pretty much broke all the bolts I worked on so far. still have the pass. side to do. I may try to find a rn2* parts truck to do the brake swap and steal some steel from.

If I can figure what's wrong with my 2tg I may just put that in.

I really love your truck! Well actually all you guyses trucks! Its been and going to be very motivational for me!

    Thanks
