Been shopping around for a while now for a GOOD H4 HID kit and need some input. I was told by this know it all at a local shop that sells kits, that our pre tacoma pickups cannot run dual fillament HI- LOW beam bulbs. Is this true? Also besides DDM tuning what other sites and brands are good to shop for? Looking for a 35w kit with 8000k bulbs thats prefferably German or japanese made, tired of looking through all the chinese mystery kits. Any input would be appreciated.

I know lots of people with kits from ddmtuning and every one of they is satisfied with what they have. I'll be converting mine to 55 watt 5000k dual bulbs soon. Much higher than 5000k and you'll be wasting your money. You ever drive with super blue bulbs? You can't see shiat, the human eye can't see the light contrast on the road. Sure it "looks" good but if you can't see where you're going what's the damned point?

So the HI-LO beam kits do work on our trucks? I had a feeling that sad story this local rice shop owner was giving me sounded stupid. He was saying that he wires up 95 and below toyota pickups all the time yada yada yada and that our trucks are constant power and intermittent ground signal on our headlights, and thats why its harder to run dual fillament HID kits without repinning the headlight harness. I just never probed anything yet to prove him wrong. So the higher 55 watt kit is better thatn the 35? And I thought that the lowe Kelvin rating bulbs like the 5000K and 6000K were more blue than the 8000k wich throw a more white cleaner tone before turning purple like the 1200K? Sorry run on sentence

iTalk stories sometimes with the guy at that shop u went to... from what iRemember him telling me, certain kits he's installed, he had to switch the wires in the connector that connects the stock wiring to the ballast. and in other cases he mentioned something about adding in a fuse for the higher wattage kits. i've seen a few kits that are HID high n low with a small motor on the backside of the bulbs. if you get one of those u might have to move the battery back a lil bit. maybe... as far as color, i'd stay in the 5000k - 8000k range (i run 5000k)

I'm sure its a luck of the draw type deal on chinese ebay kits.... But i've been running one for about 4 years now with no problems. That was back in the day when a $100 kit was cheap, lol. Now they have $35 kits!

I got the 6000k Hi/Low kit with the solenoids on the bulb. Works great! One of the bulbs started turning red on me recently, so i broke down and spent a whopping $13.50 on some 5k bulbs without the solenoids. I miss the hi/lo already. But the 5k is noticeably brighter!

And my ballasts are just screwed in by the tab and hanging... I didn't get fancy with silicone or any other anti-vibration methods, so that's gotta say something about the kit i'm sure.

My vote is for the 5k! Unless you HAVE to have some blue... And then i wouldn't go past 6k. Especially if you haven't retrofitted projectors yet.

The only thing I add to add was a resister on one side so the high- low indicator would work ( it is after market LED).

    theretrofitsource.com FTW!

check my build thread if you wanna do it the right way, and get the most out of your HIDs..I don't care what kit or bulb you get the H4 housing is not designed for HID and the different type of bulb. Its gonna scatter EVERYWHERE, put the light where you need it...on the road, plus get a nice cut off with a purple blue flicker, all with projector retrofit...again check my thread GL

ddmtuning kits are probably the best out there for your $$doe$$ I have had my kit for over 2yrs, my buddy over 2 and my bro 1yr and never have I ever had a problem with them. DDM is also very good with warranty stuff. All my friends are running DDM kits and the ONLY issue we had was that one of the fuse box/converter pieces (not the ballast, in the harness) overheated somehow and got all melted looking. DDM stated it could be a defective part so they sent him a new one free of charge!

so..... im looking for an HID set too. i thought the HL on our trucks were "sealed" housings. meaning there is no bulb to replace... u have to replace the whole light assy. is this true? n if not true, what type of bulb does it use?

Company in Huntington Beach Cali called DDM Tuning has the HIDs with life time warranty for 43$ and the housings for 60$ super cheap. I've been running their HIDs for as long as I can remember, never had problems. Used to sell these from my shop I had as well, never had a comaint and never had a return...
