Hey, new to the site. I am a starion guy, got it fully built 16g turbo mpi running megasquirt.....see pic below! Im here to look for info on my buddies truck (Erik beeman @yotatech.com) he has a 2wd 88 reg cab. The original plan was to fully build the 22re but its looking to be to much trouble with not enough benefits. We purchased a megasquirt and had it running (its now for sale) but we have decided to go with a 1jzgte, 300hp for $3000 is definitely worth it. If someone can point us in the right direction for a rear end that will drop in with ease and hold the power I would appreciate it. Thanks, Scott
yah i have thought about the supra irs but it seems a little to much work, not saying I can't do it (I am a certified welder) but the truck runs right now and we would like to keep it like that for a while. We would like to do the truck in stages rear end and fuel system then cooling system then drop the 1jz in
i'm a welder/fabricator as well! the supra rearend is a drop out assembly. eight bolts and its out of the car. you could probably mount it right beneath the trucks frame utilizing the factory mounting points. one problem would also be that they are about 4" to wide for a pickup. i had to narrow the supra rearend for my truck, but that was to get the tires tucked up in the bed.
ok I guess I will have to look into a supra irs then, Which gen would it need to be from and what is the gear ratio?
Hey man welcome to the site. Just a thought i have a 250hp 7mgte in my truck and i have the 8" diff. It handles the power nicely, but it is a one wheel peel. Your other option to to swap a Supra LSD guts into your existing solid rear axle. http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2320&highlight=Supra+Diff That might help with some research.
i'm using the rearend from a 89 supra turbo. i turned the yoke and got 3.75 turns for 1 of the hub, so i think it's somewhere around a 3.73
Welcome to toyotaminis! As you can tel, alote of guys and gals with great info and some awesome projects. Welcome to our family. . .
If the truck already has a "8" axle then you don't need anything else besides four linking it. The "8" is as stout as they come, 30 splined axles and alot of aftermarket support for lockers, lsds, spools, mini spools, ring and pinions. It should hold 300HP with no problem!
