Hey everyone, My name is Ian. I'm out in Riverside, Ca and I've been building cars and trucks for a number of years now. I'm heavily into traditional customs from the 40s-60s but I have always had a soft spot for minis. I just bought a 1970 Toyota Hilux and have spent the last 10 days bagging and body dropping the truck. I have an 18r-u and a w50 trans (that ill be looking for a few odd parts for) that I am dropping in it and I plan to have her running by the end of December as my daily. She is beat to hell and the previous owner used about gallons of bondo in her so I have a bit of work to do. I joined the forum to gain from, as well as share some of my own knowledge on the forum. -Ian
ya know its ilegeal to post here without posting pics of the rivi right? j/k welcome to the site and please for the love of all that is bolted an holy please post pics
10days bagging and bodying it I swear thats determination! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! would love to see that soon!
Ahahaha! a Minitruck forum, and all are showing the Rivi love? I'm stoked!! I'll post some pics. Yeah, I'm pretty determined to get the thing laid out in a hurry. Been spending a ton of time on the frame though. Hand made frame ends, notches, and link bars are in the mix! I need a few w50 parts though (slave cylinder, clutch collar, shifter, speedo receiver, any leads?) and just gotta repair some rusty floors and fenders. All good though! And there is no excuse for workin til midnight when you have a backyard shop full of light at your disposal! -Ian Heres a teaser photo! older one. I'm redesigning the Headlight and grille setup and a few other things.
Thats great for you to join the site. We can always use a member that has tremendous skillz especially because youre in Cali. San Diego is only a couple of hours from your house. I have an 82 and all I need is a notch some weld spots and I could have it done by end of December too. Thank goodness my bodywork doesnt sound as much as yours. By the way where can I get some whitewalls like the ones on your Rivi? My 82 has similar wheels and its going to be slammed at a 6/7 static drop. So I know those tires would look sic!
Hey man!!! yeah, well i finally got a yota so had to find a place to hang! hows your truck coming along? Much progress?? And thanks to all for the warm welcome, any southern cali people who are down to cruise?
If you need some work done, let me know! times have been hard so the hobby has spilled into the occupation section. The whitewalls are Denman classic bias plys. I love traditional looking tread and sidewalls so i had to go bias ply. They arent cheap though, Wide Whites cost about 220 a piece! and i got mine on a deal: $750 for the set mounted and balanced. I have a pretty good connect on tires. Shoot me a PM if you need anything!
Coo.. Look if you go on customtacos.com the SD crew always have cruises and we have mod meets in different locations. Im on there because my DD is my 97 Tacoma 6/7 static drop. Now if I can get my 82 finished and running I would spend equal time on this site. I want to have my 82 running because I see many 79-83's around but just stock/landscaping style. If I get the white wall 6/7 statics drop I know I will be turning some serious heads. PM your quotes for work. I need a new bottom windshield trim(rusted out) and a small rusted out driver side floor pan. That rest is engine work..
