Ok so i put 3in blocks in the rear today. That went off with no trouble whats so ever. The problem is i tried to lower the front by loosening the torsions. I can't get the dog gone nuts to come loose on them. I soaked the in wd-40 thinking it might help any other ideas?
i used my ingersoll rand torque and titanium on mine, they came off reall fast. are you using hand tools or air tools?
You do know that there are 2 nuts on each torsion bar bolt right? If you cant get them loose then I would wedge a wrench on the top nut & using a breaker bar or something that will give you some extra leverage/pulling power & use that to break the nuts loose. What happens is that when you try to loosen the bolts with both nuts on there it just tightens it up!
i cannot get them top nut loosened and out of the way to loosen the second nut. I have tried hand tools, with and with out a 4 ft cheater pipe, and also have tried an impact gun and air ratchets.
thought about that too but i got fuel lines just inches away. don't want to wind up torching the whole thing.
dang, i'm not sure, i'm kinda looney and have welded fuel tanks on big rigs full of fuel. They catch on fire but don't really go boom. if someone had put locktight on them i think heat is the only way to go. also if you heat it up and spray wd-40 on it, the heat sucks the wd-40 into the threads, how hard would it be to move the lines a bit?
aren't rigs full of diesel? not nearly as volatile as gasoline. that is one of the main reasons the US military uses diesel fuels versus gasoline is less risk for explosions.
yeah, you can run a torch over it and it won't light, the high compression of the engine make it pop. the way i've caught them on fire was tig welding about half way down the tank. they are aluminum and the fuel cools it as your trying to heat it, heat it long enough and then it will light up. I did cut a shield off a 05 chevy service truck tank, i think it was aluminum since it didn't cut it melted apart. i was scared of that thing lighten up. man the stupid things employers ask of their employees.
i am in the car audio business and i work as an installer. I have been asked to do things by some unscrumplous sales people and i had to flat out tell them no because it was unsafe.
FYI - Liquid Wrench, Heat & 1/2" air wrench was my friend when I took mine off. I know your loosening them, but same idea! I so tryed the breaker bar & a socket wrench ( not )! And - just some fyi and IM sure you did this, but, take the pressure off the bars by putting a jack under the rear torsion bar spring to help remove the spring pressure from the bolt. I did this and it worked first time. Without doing this, your leaving the pressure on the torsion spring and increasing its resistance to the bolt/nut. . . Goodluck man
The REAR tosion bar spring, not the front, it sticks out right with the bolt in the back, thats the spring, it is the actual peice that resists against the nut/bolt causing it to be tighter. ITs the claw looking thing pictured below. All your doing is relieving some pressure while still leaving room to loosen the bolt/nuts! http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/3/web/2619000-2619999/2619563_59_full.jpg
it is the top nut that is giving me trouble I can't them them to loosen up from each other. the bolt itself will turn with little effort. the jam nuts just don't want to break loose from each other.
Yeah i'm having the same issue right now, but i'm just soaking the nuts in wd ever night when i head in. Maybe it'll help?
Try using 2 size 22 metric box wrenches. Open end on the bottom nut and box end on the top nut. Space them about 1" apart and spread em' like you mean it... If that don't work, stick the handle of a 1/2" drive rachet or pipe inbetween the wrenches and twist... *righty tighty, lefty loosey* < just incase you had a brain fart!
finally got it ok I finally got everything loosened up. it took several days of soaking with penetrating oil and a friend with a lift and he-man type strength. while the truck was in the air we decided to go ahead and pull the middle leaf out. i am tucking tire all the way around now. i will post pics this afternoon.
