So my window trim corners are chrome. And the chrome is showing through on straight peices... how can I buff the black crap off without damaging chrome? Can I buy the chrome peices somewhere?

Maybe try a little bit of paint thinners on a soft cloth in a small area first and see what it does, try not to get any on the rubbers or paint work and you dont want to use anything abrasive as it will scratch the crome bits and you will have to look at it every day and think to your self i shouldn't have done that.

Get some airplane stripper from a auto paint supplier, than once all the paint is off polish out with a power buffer, one on a stand works best!

If you leave your truck parked out in the hot sun, it will all peel/flake off by itself after a few years :D

A little thread drift but I don't think it is chrome. It looks more like stainless steel. Most of the black rubber (the coating is not just paint) has flaked off on mine and even after years being parked outdoors and never being touched or polished or waxed, there is absolutely no rust. No pitting. Nothing.

If it is stainless, I think it is amusing that in order to "cheapify" the trim for the base model trucks, instead of installing cheap, black painted mild steel parts, they coat stainless (?) parts with black rubber.

I actually like the stainless (?) look; I peel off bits of rubber whenever I have a chance. Eventually, it will just be all stainless (?).

I have a question...how do you take these off without bending in order to strip them and buff?

Yes it has worn off this far from years of wear and I know its not actual chrome but what does heavily polished stainless look like... thats right chrome baby! And yes it is a black rubber crap I havent gotten to getting the stripper but to the prior poster. I worked the corner peice (top) loose and it slides off the straight peices then from there the straight peices slide right off. Key is they SLIDE off. The dealer had all the chrome peices but yea 400 for every thing. Being that im a mechanic and manage a shop that is a large commercial customer I jewed him down to 280. But thats if buffing doesnt work. If it does pics and write up wil come for un install. Strip buff and re install.

FYI EVEN IF U LIKE IT AS IS. TAKE THEM OFF AND CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! I had half a pine tree under mine and it was all wet and gross... rust paradise

To remove there is a tool ( get @ most auto paint shops or auto stores), still be careful as can bend out of shape!
And stainless will polish out to a chrome finish & it stays!!

Interesting.. the clips that hold the trim on? I didnt need to remove them. Maybe to remove windsheild. I will probably add that tool to the arsenal anyway looks neat haha
