ok I dunno why but every damn seal in my motor decided to go bad at the exact same time... so my motor is pouring about a quart of oil every 5 mins. Anyways. I need opinions. My mom is going to give me the cash, shes got alot of empty credit cards that she can help me out with no matter how bad she doesnt want to shes offering, I have no other choice.. REALISTICLY- how much will I spend on putting my 2jz in my truck ? mounts are $400, it needs a starter, I know I need a new driveshaft, and radiator. OR MY friend will sell me his truck for about 800, its got a rebuilt 22re in it.. the only thing is I will take the motor, put my bad one in it, and then re sell it... or leave it in the yard or something... I dunno yet... I hate to spend money on a motor im trying to dump anyways but if the 2jz will cost me 2 grand versus buying a whole running truck for 800 Ive got to buy that truck....
2jz is going to cost you way more than 2k and your truck will be down for far longer than you think. What seals are out in your truck? Seals are cheap, and easy to fix compared to a motor swap.
well good friend wants 1100 for the truck.. forget that. what makes you think the swap will be over 2k ? I am going to do it myself. and I dont mind not having a truck for a few weeks...
Have you priced the driveshaft, starter & radiator for the Supra motor yet, cause Im thinking those parts will be expensive. Also I found out that when you do motor swaps there are what I can "hidden" expenses that go with it. It never fails...you get going on a build, something happens & youll wind up spending more money than you thought you would.
Uh 2k is nothing that will cover the engine, shipping, and that's about it. To do it correctly and get your truck up to par being able to handle the power I would budget about 6k min. Who's going to wire it? What air filter are you going to use? How's your tranny? How's your rear end? etc etc etc.
my friend spent about the summer and a month or two trying to drop a 1JZ in place of a 7M in his cressida. good luck bro
i say do the 2jz, thats what you planned to do anyways, you're already ahead getting the motor for free, spend the dough and put it in. you'll be happy and i'll be jealous!
drive shaft, shop here cuts them your lenth for 100 bucks, starter is 140 plus 60 core so 200 there, and I will use my radiator, just need a electric fan. Im just curious what can I "expect" for hidden costs ?
hey hey now I already got the engine, tranny, ecu, uncut wiring harness, and just about everything else motor wise I could need. I have a good 8 inch rear end in my truck, Im going to wire it with a friends help, what air filter ? I have the stock air box with MAF so Im good there....
sounds like you are trying to rationalize a 2j swap which usually means you want to do the swap but actually realize that you can't pull it off for 2k in a couple of weeks. Cheap Fast Reliable pick 2.
If cheap gets me fast, I could care less if it is realiable... its only gotta last me a year or less.
dude I would trade my truck for yours ANYDAY ! (if yours were a little more finished!!!LOL) anyways, im going to order as much parts as I can before my 22r blows up.. then Ill start the swap...
why does it only have to last a year? Where did the engine come from? Has it been leak down and compression tested?
i think you could fabricate mounts for a lot less than 400 bucks. i built mounts to put a hemi in a jeep, cost about 10 bucks, another person bought their mounts (around $100) and they were identical to the ones i made. my dad modified the jeep harness and the dodge ram harness to make it run. it was three weeks of ohming wires but it worked. painless wiring made a harness for $1000, but you lose alot of functions that the one my dad did retained. also had to change to a aftermarket aluminum radiator. we had to search the parts store for the closest one that would work, then modify it. the computer had to be flashed at the dealership which wasn't cheap either. i know its not a 2jz going into a yota but it is the same principles.
i just checked the bic performace kit, i would but a geo motor in before i would pay $400 for the kit. there is about $25 tops in steel there. if you can weld decently, i would say build the mounts yourself, and if you like the poly bushings just buy those for $150 and save yourself a couple hundred bucks.
how about this, I buy you a plane ticket, and you fly down, air ports 10 mins from my house, and Ill pay you $150 to make me some mounts lol. And thats a serious offer let me know. I cant weld, my neighbor can. I dont know how good at fabbing he is though... If it take it to a shop how will they build them? do I gotta bring the motor and the truck or what ??? IDK
the motor runs fine, nothing wrong with it. He pulled it out to put a twin turbo 1jz in, I dont know why but thats what he did. It only has to last a year because I will be a senior in school by then and my mom promised me a new vehicle for senior year. I only have this truck because it was a gift from a friend or else I probably would be driving something a bit nicer, but my sister graduates a year before me so she will have a better job and pay her own car payment and help out then madre can afford to get me something nice. No matter what my next vehicle is I plan on keeping this truck for a long long time, I want it to be a life long project I can pass down to my kid as a first car.. Just a helluva lot nicer then when I got it.
