Hi guys! My name's Jim and I live in rainy Seattle, Washington. The truck is a beater '76. So far I've replaced the rear axle seals, all new rear brakes and drums; all new front bushings, balljoints, pads and rotors, wheelbearings; new ujoints; carburetor; fluids; and a valve adjustment. I found it a few miles south for six hundred bones. Abused and unloved for some time I fear. Although, EVERYTHING works. Even the radio AND windshield washers. This is going to be my daily el-cheapo el-heapo and I plan on using it for what it was built for, hauling miscellanious crap to-and-fro and all that jolly sort of thing. I plan on this being my last vehicle until electric takes over. I was a Dodge mechanic for some time, then worked on big rigs for Swift Transpo, then worked for a deep sea commercial diving company and now work as a professional bum for the City. I figure my new beater Toyota completes the package and my personal image. I think it's important to help one another, and to seek help when needed, so I looked for a good forum to call home and here I am! I really look forward to contributing whatever I can and to gaining whatever knowledge I might in my time here! This is my first Toyota, and my return to the classic car arena. Mycurrent transpo is a '92 Infiniti Q45 that has been nothing but an expensive pain in my backside, so the Toyota is my knight in shining armor. It's good to be back in the carbureted iron and steel world again! Plus the NRA sticker just looks way cooler on the beater 'Yota.
Welcome to TM! ShoNuff, another member, lives in Seattle. He's also into the classic Yota's, has quite a few of 'em. Btw, have any pics of the truck? Just to give a warning, we are all pic whores around here.
Not yet, but I suppose I could snap a few. Not much to look at I'm afraid... Flat red with a silver SR5 stripe and random small dents, a couple small cancer spots, black ribbed bedliner and the look of an old, forgotten and seldom used and abused pickup that's having new life and new use built back into her. It's kind of beautiful in a way with it's sad face slowly turning into a smile as I rebuild and replace, preparing the old girl for her chance to rejoin civilization as a prized and useful tool once again. Now I really am inspired to take some pics. And to add helper springs. She's gunna need em.
