Hey all, I am new to this site, but not new to 4x4'ing or turnin' wrench. While I'm not specifically a Toyota expert, I can try & offer to assist in some of the questions posted by members here. I have been an ASE certified mechanic for about 20yrs, and have been hobby-turnin' the ol' wrench for about 40yrs since back when my father drug me away from the Saturday morning cartoons and took me outside at about 9yrs old to watch & learn as he worked on his cars because he couldn't afford to just pay someone else to do it for him and was forced to learn by necessity. That lesson has stuck with me ever since, so I got certified and I am now passing on this knowledge to my step-sons in that a few bucks invested in some tools and a book for specifications, along with some common sense, and you can test & fix it yourself and save hundreds to thousands of dollars later on, and maybe make some bucks doing it for others if they wanted. I got into 4x4'ing as a progression from dirtbiking and now own 3 4x4's and an AWD, and looking to inherit a 4th 4x4 in later years. Other interests include riding my Harley Super-Glide and Hotrods like my (2nd owner) '67 Mustang which was my Friday-Nite cruiser & girl-getter back when I was a teenager. Things are slowing down as I get older and now looking to sell my '89 Toyota 4x4 pickup w/ rebuilt 22RE ...good truggy candidate! (Please look for the posting when the admin lets me post it here. And I'll correct this when I can post it.) Thanks for reading!
welcome! its good to have another experienced member running around. im always looking for help since im learning to do things myself since i cant afford to pay for work
Thanks for the welcome guys. I had to figure out that photobucket site.. here's a few pics. All three 4x4's... '83 S-10 Blazer 4x4. This is my main truck. I used to take it off-road in some rough trails and have been lucky I didn't bounce a tree with all that glass... So I bought my '89 Toy (below) for playing off-road. The 2.8L engine has got a Holley 4bbl and Eldebrock intake, 'rv' cam, and headers going out to large diameter single exhaust. '94 K1500 Z-71. I got this for towing our little travel trailer better than the Blazer. No work done on this ...yet. And... The FUGLYOTA 1989 Toyota 4x4 Pickup - For Sale. Rebuilt Engine I never quite got to do what I wanted with this truck in making a 'truggy' out of it.
Really? It was already that way when I got it.... some young kid yonder years ago rolled it while playing up in the woods. And I didn't care about "pretty" when I got for the intended purpose of being an off-road toy that I wouldn't have to worry or care about damaging the body any further... like my other 4x4.
welcome!! you should start a build thread if you are going to make that thing a truggy. it would be cool to watch that transformation!! that engine looks really good too.
I wanted to make a truggy out of it, but that plan hasn't worked out, so I gotta sell it. I recently went through the motor again with some new parts and all new gaskets to be sure it's reliable because my step-son wanted to buy it... but situations change and now he cannot take it. (...not trying to turn this thread into a classified ad.)
