Hi everyone! i'm Looking to buy a 89-91 truck single cab or xtra cab, i used to have a 87, 1 ton Long Bed and move to East Coast for a while and had to sell it! Long story short Bad economy, back in California this year and i found myself with no car! and i really miss my Truck! so if anyone knows someone selling near the area please let me know! thanks.

Man that 92 Is exactly what i want and it's in my budget! but it says it runs rough and i have no engine fixing skills! hey macawilial do you have a good (and cheap) mechanic?
i am a mechanic, and i could use some side work right. edit: looks like the 92 is a v6.. i searched for 22r's only. i would not get that one. probably popped the headgasget...
Oh i see yeah i really have not clue about the engines man, how much it would be to fix something like that?
really not worth it, you would end up spending almost as much as you are buying the truck for to fix it right. They pop head gasgets all the time. The only real way to stop it is to replace the head bolts with head studs. Still i would tell the guy the motor is blown, offer him 100$ then replace the head gasgets and bolts. Look at the first truck i posted, that looks like a better deal. plus it has a 22r in it
Thanks man i'll keep looking, that 89 looks good, but i have no transportation whatsoever right now and that 92 turn out to be in Murrieta, right next to me! and if i could i would get something like that, ok so you the 22r is better than the v6? and i was wondering why no one seems to like autotrans! more problems?, i really appreciate your help man!
ya the 22r is better then the v6. i could say that with confidence. sorry to the 3.0 v6 owners of the site. there is nothing wrong with the auto, i think a lot of people ( myself included ) just perfer the manual. The auto's actually are pretty bullet proof, they are an asian warner transmission ( great transmission company ) so they really dont have any problems. hit up craigslist there are tons of trucks laying around... whats your budget anyways? http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/1944231512.html
I got 2k and i'm trying to sell my trailer, so i should have about 2500, i was leaning into manual but to be honest i don't have a problem with any of them! so that gives me more options! yeah i rather go for better gas mileage than power, so v6 is not what i'm looking for, and when i find xtra cabs most of them are 4x4's! that must me worst in MPG don' they?
Hey welcome to TM. I work in temecula and i have found tons of toys on craigslist for sale in your budget. What type of trailer you selling? Good luck with finding one. Ill keep an eye out for you.
No I would define myself at best as an inexperienced amateur mechanic, I try to do my own work and if I can't, I'll ask for help. Thank god for the TM community! I'm great at electrical, cutting and bolting. I'm very weak motorwise and even worse at welding.
Thanks Dgerfan55 yeah i find a lot of trucks in my budget and seen a lot of them in the last month or so but i haven't been able to pull the trigger on any of them, my problem is that's all my budget so i have to include the registration and the Smog to it! besides i don't know much about engines but i heard knocking and rattling and stuff like that in some i've seen, so i stayed away from those! Here's a pic of the trailer i posted a few times in craigslist and only got low ball offers i'm looking to get like 500, thanks for the help man.
I hear you man, I been reading the forums and found a lot of good advice and great knowledge, we have a great community! THANKS EVERYONE!
Come on macawilial you can do everything i seen your truck. Ya it does suck not having any mechanic abilities but its always good to learn. Alot of the time on some of these trucks your looking at has never or its been a very long time since they did the normal maintaince on them. Like oil, filter, radiator flush, spark plugs and wires, Cap and rotor. stuff like that. But where here for you if you need help. Heres one for ya http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/1950082372.html another one http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/1948691616.html
in cali, seller is responsible for the vehicle passing smog. It has to be smogged before the seller can sell it. If they dont have current smog paper work knock 100$ off the price and tell em you will take care of it. should only cost ya 40$ at most. if they bitch tell em you are taking the risk of having to repair it if it fails, the 100$ is fair. if the motors you are looking at have a slight rattle on acceleration from the front of the motor this is most likley the timing chain. Its a common problem to have the guides break and the chain slap around inside the timing cover. Its not a sign of neglect, but it does need immediate replacement. These chains should be done every 100K so if you are looking at one with 175 or up think that you are going to have to do a couple hundred worth of repairs in the next few months. This can be done by yourself in the driveway, but you will have to come on the site for directions or get yourself a haynes manual to do it.
Thanks man! yeah once i get it i'm gonna have lot's and lot's of questions, so i'm glad i got this place! yeah i figure i had to spend few hundred in repair so i honestly was looking for something under 2k but all the xtra cabs are over 2k! anyways thanks a lot man, i really wanna learn more so whenever i do some work as a newbie i will take pics and post them! Dgerfan55 I like the second link you gave me i'm gonna call him today! i got a Atv and when i got it, i had no idea about anything, find a Online Forum and now i do all the service myself! so i wanna learn the same way with the Truck!
