So I just pulled the head off and I was wondering if anyone can give some advice on cleaning the old gasket off the block...I turned in the head to a machine shop so it's just the block im dealing with....also if anyone has pictures to show me the oil passages that some folks say not to get anything into it......on the same note should I coat the walls of the cylinders with ATF when all is said and done? Please help

just get a gasket scrapper and scrape the whole deck of the block without gouging it youll be fine.. unless its pitted.

Just your basic gasket scrapers as mentioned above, a sanding block helps, keep debris out of anything you can, the oil return hole is the large round one at the passenger rear, clean all the head bolt holes including the small one at the front under the distributor gear, make sure no oil in them, a bottom tap is a good idea on the head bolt holes, makes for a better even torque when reinstalling the head. Vacuum or blow out the cylinders but don't oil them, the oil only helps to glaze the rings lessening the sealing.
