Hello! New Oregon Hilux owner checking in.

I bought it ~6 months back when I was still living in Corvallis finishing my last term of school. Now I've got an awesome new job and some disposable income. :headbang:

There's plenty of rust to clean up but nothing to bad. I've been focusing on getting it reliable so I can start driving it again as my primary.

    So far NEW:
    Clutch slave cylinder
    Battery
    Starter
    Spark plugs / Wires
    Rotor and Cap
Timing Kit (This was super worn and was making allot of noise)
Exhaust (Muffler back) Sounds so much better!

    Still to do:
Oil pan gasket (tore it up installing the new timing kit)
    Alternator
Find a new radiator (the old one is seeping)

    Future:
    New weather seals
    Lowered
    Rims
    Roof rack
    Take care of rust

Good seeing another one of these pop up in the Northwest! I had to travel down from Salem to find mine, seem like there are a decent amount (meaning just a few) down there in Oregon, from what I've seen and heard. Clean truck dude and welcome!

Nice truck. Get it dropped and buy my 18s. They would fill the fenders :D

I really want some gold Enkei 92's with the zero offsets that I've seen a few of you guys running. They look sick. I'm just not sure if I want to drop ~$680 on rims.

I'm looking at jeep and dodge rims right now. They aren't as cool but I could snag them for ~$40 per rim instead of ~$170. Still unsure at this point. I wish I could see what these would look like with a sportier tire and stretched.

I found the year ranges from this site and have been using car-parts.com to look for local deals.

This is a first time for me so I'm learning as I go. In the past I've always ran what the previous owner had when it came to rims/wheels.

Turns out the rattle I was hearing was actually "pinging". I reset the timing tonight and I've got a new rig!! WoooHoo!

I feel kinda stupid now for not checking this first.. The previous owner said that it was the timing chain and I just ran with that assumption without doing any checking of my own. Its a good thing that I replaced the timing kit tho, It was defiantly worn.

I ordered a mechanical fuel pump, points and a new condenser.

I still have a bouncy/(out of control) speedometer when the truck is still cold. The new speedometer cable I installed had no effect. Not really sure what to try next on this one. I've also noticed the shifter is stiff when its cold. Like your stuck in the mud or something.

Radiator is still seeping. I think its because the radiator outlet is so pitted. More on this as it develops.

I wasn't able to install the new distributor because the original pully had an extra spacer. I'm make a post about this once I decided how best to address the issue.

On a different note! After work this afternoon I came out to this on my truck window. Ego boost....Check!

The ones I got were made by American Racing, 15x7", I bought them off eBay, the bolt pattern was different when I ordered them but they said on their page that they could customize them, so I simply asked if they can drill the 5x114 pattern and they did it. Enkei doesn't make any with 0 offset, at least from what I could find. Below is the link to my build showing the wheels and how they mount up.

Let me know if you have any other questions, or help with tracking a set of those wheels down.

    Update:

I was driving home a few nights back and my headlights cut out! I was lucky the moon was out and I was almost home. I'll be driving the mr2 until I can figure it out. (Hopefully this weekend.) Turn signals are working fine. I briefly checked the fuse box in the engine compartment and they seemed ok. More this weekend...

In other news I have a few more rockauto parts to install.

I'm going to try and find an alternator shop that can help swap the pulleys off the new and old alternators. Tried to myself but it wasn't happening..

There's a 72 and 78 hilux in one of the local wrecking yards that I might checkout.

Lunch is over back to work!

Pretty sure the headlight issue was just a burned out fuse. The headlight fuse was definitely burned out.

    Alternator Update:
The local toyota dealer swapped the pulleys for me. Heres a comparison between the two. (The stock pulley is the one fitted to the new alternator.)

Even after swapping the pulleys things didn't line up quite like I wanted.

So we took a little off with the lathe.

**Its all together and lines up a lot better now but I forgot to get a pic so I'll update this later.

    Ignition update:
Installed the new points and capacitor. While we were timing it we realized that the vacuum advanced doesn't seem to be functioning correctly. I'm looking into re builders at the moment. Not sure if the 1972 hilux at the wrecking yard might work. From looking it up on Wikipedia the engine is probably the 18rc.

I took the seat cover off and found out why my butt hurts.. Hah

I was worried there wouldn't be much under the battery mount but was relived to find that it actually looks like there's still some metal left. I'm going to try and clean it up and get a new mounting plate in there.
