Advertised on CL for $400 (Tow Yard). Talked them down to $250. She's far from perfect; missing passenger and driver's side windows, missing side markers on one side, and missing grill. But her 18R surprisingly runs really strong, registration was current, beautiful dash pad, and very minimal surface rust, if any, in most of the critical areas. All this and it's price, were hard to walk away from. She may not be the 71' or 72' I've always been attracted to, and would like to own and restore someday. But she's my new "smog exempt" baby. *Burnzya, thanks for the nudge, or I might have otherwise passed it up. I'm happy I didn't.
please paint it green! please paint it green! please paint it green! and if you want a stock style steering wheel without that goofy third spoke i have on id let go for cost of shipping. i also have a couple aftermarket ones. but grant 3 bolt adapters are all i found made for the columns.
I love that green! But one of the first things I'm going to do is take her down to bare metal. Starting with the entire cab, inside out. Then some sort of epoxy primer. I'll worry about color later. But, again, it would be nice to keep it that original green. BTW, thanks for the offer on the wheel. Once I get to that point I'll hit you up. Cinnammon: As soon as California adds 77's to their list of smog exemptions, you could have her.
Would you like a 5 speed for it? You already have the seat to fit its pending, but my never run since rebuild w50 wont be needed if I decide to run a 3t, my buddy is working on getting me one. once he comes through, its out with the w50 unless i could find a bellhousing to fit. let me know
The 82' was a rust bucket that wouldn't pass smog, hence my being able to pick her up for $200. At the time the plan was to use the motor for the wagon, until the 18rg was rebuilt. Long story short, snapped a water pump bolt over torquing the damn thing and ended up selling the truck to a welder who happen to need a 22r...who happen to be willing to pay what the truck cost me. The wagon....ahhhh, the sweet wagon. I miss her so much. She ended up becoming a wedding gift to my brother. Not a week goes by where I don't offer to take it off his hands for enough money to buy himself a nice little family car. But, he and the new wife love it - almost as much as I do. I know where another one is. (If my brother never gives in.) Since joining this forum I've come to realize the trucks are not only far more functional than anything else I've ever owned (going by my lifestyle), but more importantly, far more easier to maintain both inside and out. I'm hooked....and focused.
How's this going? I wanted to chime in and say that some of the bits your missing I have access to at a yard off a 78'. I have seen the headlight surrounds (no chrome bezzels) as well as the glass and door panels (peanut butter)
Sincerely appreciate the offer. Already picked up some glass, but have yet to install it. Waiting for new rubber already on order. Just today I picked up a left side grill off of a 77' and a right side grill off of a 78'. Even found a badge! I'm not too concerned with panels just yet because I'm planning to have the doors media blasted, then I'll coat the inner bottom seams with POR 15. So, really, tons of work to do before I even get to the pretty stuff. But, again, I appreciate you lookin' out. Right now, I'm too tied up trying to get this 18 year old I found with a super nice clean 72'! He got it as a gift from his stepfather, but hates it because he's never lifted a wrench in his life. I want his truck - bad. More so than I did the 70' I had action at getting. Just my personal preference.
