If u get a internally regulated gm 2 then yea iv heard that all gm 1 2 3 wire alts can be converted to single wire hook up as the most common acdelco cs130 and cs140s are often switched to 0ne or two wire hook ups for old school rides
I'd have to check on that can't remember I do no that switching to a ac delco gm one or 2 wire alt does not charge well at idle they usually take about up to 1500rpms to excite them not a big deal tho I would think wich year and size will come down to bracket location and width as far as coils just get u a msd or accel coil from your parts store
Althouth this is not your year it may be a little more insight and I believe the reason they say 84 and below coil is be because in 85 gm switched to hei ignition all self contained in the distributer making the coil smaller and a pain to deal with ToyotaOffRoad.com - Chevy Alternator Swap http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/toyota-truck-4runner/964864-gm-alternator-swap-need-help.html http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/index.php/toyota-gm-alternator-bracket.html Also believe u can use 92-95 Honda civic and delsol alt smaller and powerful
