Fuel tank/access cover for 75 hilux

    Nevermind...I went and checked it out. The cover looks fine, the tank will be fine after a quick cleanout...but the float sending unit is badly corroded.

    Will put up another post looking for one of those.

    Wasn't able to find a replacement sending unit, but was able to get mine rebuilt by a shop in NY. More info on another post in this section (asking for sending unit ohms readings) if you want to read about it. Meantime, here's the place that rebuilt it:

    Took the tank to a semi-local shop for "renu" process (look up "gas tank renu" if you need to find a place near you), never found anywhere to buy replacement tank. Would have been cheaper to buy a new tank, for sure. I'm told, by my "old time VW mechanic" uncle, that an internal soak in Phosphoric Acid solution would have removed all rust and left nice "pickled" finish inside tank. Wish I knew that a week ago.
