    Hello all,

    I have a 1978 pickup and the fuel sending unit is no longer working. It either reads full right after filling up or empty after a gallon or two have been used. I am unable to find a new sending unit. I have only found universal units. Has anyone used these universal units? I found a sending unit on eBay for a 72-78 FJ. Is this the same unit? I know that many parts back then were the same for FJs and pickups.
    Any info here would be appreciated!
    Thanks! :)

    Hi;

    Your sending unit might be okay. Check the sending unit's ground connection. If you have a bad ground you will get a false reading. Next check the connection at the dashbord gauge. If your wiring is that old it could be bad. Find out what the Ohm range of your factory sending unit is; Empty / Full (Should be in the factory manual.) With this information you can find a Toyota or an after market unit that might work with the factory gauge. I hope this helps.
