Just got the truck up and running. Full rebuild, new everything.

Sunday night within the first 30 miles down the highway the front main started to leak, bad. Oil slung all over the freshly detailed engine bay. I determined the I didn't oil the seal well enough and it caused a small tear letting oil leak out at a pretty rapid pace. Replaced the seal and checked the crank pully. I have a repair sleeve on it currently and its smooth, no pits, no groove, no rough spots.

Last night I was driving it home on the highway and I started to get oil spraying everywhere again. I'm at about 130 miles on the new engine and about 70 on the new seal.

I've read that people grease the front and rear mains and not just oil them.

    Opinions?

I would get a new seal! We always grease seals never oil! Make sure where the seal is riding that it's a good clean area and that the seal is not to far out or in!

Seals are supposed to be lubed with the liquid they are sealing. You sure thats where its coming from, I mean, when you replaced it the first time, was there visible damage?

There was visible damage last time. I'm going to pull the oil pump, put in a new seal, grease it and replace the oil pump seal just in case. There was oil on top of the oil pump last night but who knows after it hits the pully.

I use wheel bearing grease or assembly lube . Or builder buddy paste on all my gas or Diesel engines seals
Did you replace your oil pump o ring seal while you were doing reassembly
And if you go for a front seal replacement get a oem Toyota one .
I've had it out with a few off brand main seals over the years with various cars and my go to is always oem

22r and e front main leak is a common yota problem ..bunch a 4x4 forums discussing possible solutions to this revolving problem

Pulled everything apart today and replaced the oil pump seal and front main. Used grease instead of oil and I had 1bolt loose on the pump. The main seal was torn again. This time I thoroughly inspected the pulley and polished it up. So far at about 20 miles its dry but well see.

I put in a different brand of seal this time. Looks a bit more stout.

If you haven't had a chance to view my build thread, this is why I'm concerned with this leak.

It took a lot of work to make the engine bay look that good.

(I'm also just looking for an excuse to whore out a picture of my engine ;) )
