So I've got an 87 2wd reg cab short bed I've had a funny suspicion since I bought it that the drivers side fender bulges out about 1/2 inch more on the driver's side than the passengers side. I finally got out a level and a straight edge and from the outermost edge of the fender to the innermost lip that goes under the hood on the driver's side fender I got 6-1/4 inches. On the passenger side I got 5-3/4 inches. Measurements were taken perpendicular from the centerline of the wheel as a reference point. Was there years that had slightly wider fenders and possibly ended up on yhe trucj? Possibly somewhere along the way an aftermarket fender was installed shitty manufacturing or a different year?? I'm likely going to just replace both fenders from same mfg but before I do I just wanted to make sure this was not normal that toyota figured into the build for whatever reason. The only thing that makes it obvious is the driver side tire is tucked just inside the fender by1/2 inch. The passenger side wheel is even with the fender (which I like). Just don't have the experience with these trucks to definitively say yay or nay. Fenders lines up perfectly with door and body lines and headlight trim which is why I'm puzzled because everything is bolted up and lines up as it should. Anyone ever seen fenders this far off before??

    Can you post pics?

The 4x4 model for this generation truck had flared front fenders. Having said that the difference is obvious. I think the 2WD all had the same fenders

Easiest way is to just compare the wheel arch with your rear boxsides. For some reason all trucks got the same boxsides that have the flare, but only 4x4 trucks got the matching front fenders. 2wd fronts have no flare whatsoever, almost perfectly flat.

I'll post pics tomorrow I didn't have time today and I just glat out forgot, but I did manage to throw on a new steering stabilizer this evening monroe sc2914 for 26 bucks and works just fine and 20 minutes to swap it out. It's not the factory with the ball joint but no way in gods green earth am I paying over 100 bucks almost 200 in fact for toyota factory one on a 2wd pickup. If it was 4wd I'd consider it. Tomorrow night is the kyb monotube gas adjust install got a pretty good deal 175 for all 4. It has the old kyb GR2 twin tubes on there now no idea how old (old enough to replace) they are but I'm guessing they are not as stiff as these new monotubes will be. A rear hellwig sway bar will be on order soon and maybe some 1/2 inch shorter upper tubular control arms sold by SAE-Speed and thatll probably do it for suspension. Then it'll be time for an oil based alkyd enamel roll on paint job sanding doesn't bother me lol haha

Can't figure out how to post pics (image too large) but I've been doing some looking on the web at difference between 4x4 and 2x4 fenders and I can definitely say I don't have the 4x4 fender but as previously stated the drivers side is 1/2 inch wider than the passenger. I'm just going to replace then both from same mfg since they are so cheap along with a new hood also since the bond between the hood and frame has separated (shimmed for time being) which makes the hood oil can. I was planning to paint come spring anyways so this will save me time stripping paint off. Glad parts are so cheap for these things and readily available.

Those shocks I hear are decent, I have no exp with them. Good start on the suspension refresh.. next up might be replacing all your bushings. Another thing about these fenders is inaccurate aftermarket parts.. the wider one might be after market! Giving you those specs.Hopefully it's not an issue where your front end is shifted to one side due to an impact..

Yeah I'm suspect it's just aftermarket issue when it was stamped. I've already done upper and lower control arm bushings, engine mounts tranny mounts. The only bushings that I haven't gotten to yet is the rear leaf spring shackle and hangars was gonna upgrade then to poly when I get the new sway bar. It's okay it's just something to go buzz around in after work or on weekends a toy basically no pun intended lol haha. Luckily it's all so cheap and I'm no purist which is good thing I just need more time.

4x4 fenders have a very defined bulged slightly rounded. 2wd are flat and shaper more defined edges

Yeah definitely have the top picture but as stated one fender is 1/2 inch wider from the centerline of the wheel from an overhead view perspective

Re: fenders. Perhaps a PO rolled his fenders, had an accident, replaced the fender but didn't roll it to match?

Re: KYB Gas-A-Just (sp?). I've had KYB Gas-A-Justs on my truck since 1990 or so. They started leaking after 20years or so, but they still damp just fine. Not sure if the current Gas-A-Justs are as good as the units sold in the 80s, though. But my experience has been great and I plan to replace them with another set.

In that case I’d be looking at a difference in front wheels causing the tucked look. You could easily swap wheels side to side to verify.

Yeah for 175 bucks for all 4 I'm very happy I didn't see the need to go to the monomax overkill or bilsteins on the yota. After recently putting bilstein 4600s on my 14 silverado z71 ltz no mods all stock I swear to never install twin tube ever again. Monotubes on everything but thats just me. I like to corner fast and I like the feel of being planted with almost zero body roll.
