its time for me to get rid of this nasty sounding fart can of a muffler on my truck. always been a fan of magnaflow, but never ran one on a 22re. my question for you guys is this, what part number are you running and do you have sound clips of them? im torn between running the oval style or round. would the tone be that different? thanks in advance for any advice.

are you running stock diameter exhaust or have you bumped it up?

also what tone are you hoping for? each muffler has it's own signature, and some brands even have a varied tone between models of muffler (cherry bomb is a good example of this).

Get one of those round Magnaflow's that are 6" x 14". It'll take up less space and sound good. The round 4" ones are LOUD. The 6" sound better imo.

I made this system pictured for a 2.4 Taco and it sounded super good, but was a 4" and was too loud for the street you had to let off the gas when you saw a cop.

I use a flowmaster 50 on my 2.4, but it's big and I've had to weld and patch the entire front where it cracked up and was coming apart. Next time I'll try a MF instead of FM.

i have stock size exhaust pipe and exhaust stops right behind the cab. im not worried about inside cab noise at all. i just want something that dont sound like an obnoxious fart can or glasspack. there is a youtube video posted by bkeinath with a white excab 4x4 that sounds pretty sweet. i have been looking at the 4" round mufflers. glad you told me that about them. guess i will jump to the 6".

    MF > FM anyday.

I have a 12-16" oval offset inlet and offset outlet on my truck. It's a 2.5" that my friend let me have.

When you get on it, you can really hear it, but just cruising around, it sounds right.

I'd say you should upgrade the exhaust size to 2.25". Opening it up will allow it to be a bit deeper, also.

MF's sound smooth, I love it.

My buddy ran a Flowmaster 40 series on his 22RE's and now his 7M. Sounds really good, have yet to hear a Magnaflow.

I ran an oval polished stainless magnaflow with 2 1/4" pipe from header to stock exit location on my 78. It sounded great under full throttle and cruising but coming down from higher rpm's it sounded like a bunch of pissed off bee's. It was fully annoying so I left it on the truck when I sold it.

My 84 has a 60 series flow master and 2 1/4" pipe from the header back to the muffler and 3" tail pipe exiting the stock location. I really like the sound of it compared to all the 40 and 50 series flowmasters I've heard on toyota's. It's got an awesome V8 burble at idle and it's nice and mellow at all rpm's till I'm full throttle then it has a nice tone.

I've never run flow master or magnaflows on a Toyota but have run a few chambered mufflers. One called the FlowTech Afterburner sounds really nice. Mellow at idle and nice an peppy up top. I have a local chambered now, CCI I wann say. I kick it out the side through the start of the leaf spring to frame gap. It's always been my favorite Toyota dump location. It's 2.5" pipe from the collector to the tip. Ill get some videos linked up soon. I have ones from both mufflers with and without a 22r below the 20r head.
