Fender "bender": it was a domino effect but very light. the person if front of the car I hit randomly slammed there brakes causing the car I hit to slam there brakes, and right as I was getting in the other lane (35mph zone) looking over my shoulder checking for cars, they hit there brakes. So I turned into the shoulder and hit my brakes, well the front brakes locked up (it was raining too) and my left turn signal kissed there bumper. shattered my turn signal and scuffed the fender a little. 20 bucks in damage for me. the Toyota sienna I hit got a baseball size dent and a nice white primer paint mark. no big deal though, just sucks since its my first car contact accident.
Yep thats the worst part. Luckily I just caught the corner. If I would have hit them head on....eek. bye bye radiator.
oh yeah really easy fix. What the big hype about 4wd fenders? are they wider? more info please Thanks NAm
2wd is flat around the lip. 4wd has the same shape as the bed flare. gains a couple inches clearance. but, it always sucks tweakin stuff. most of what ive hit is barriers, walls, and gaurd rails. lol. thats whay i get for sliding my trucks around too much. post some pics. maybe some members got extra parts floatin around for ya.
If you intend to run wider rubber and wheels later on down the road, 4WD fender assist in the extra clearance, also provides a more muscular look. in my case, my girl looks a bit more curved
4wd fenders are the way to go, and correct me please if i'm wrong, i don't want to give rajzswap bad info, but you will need new corner lenses and i thing a new grill. the first pic is a 2wd and the second is 4wd. notice the slant on the corner lights. they give you more clearance and they just look a lot better.
the best thing about this site and mini trucking is there is always somebody new around so we can rehash all the stuff we think we know LOL SO here it is again... the fenders changed to 4wd ones will cause the corner lights, the bumper AND (now pay attention here since most nobody seems to get this part) the fender/bumper hanger under the front corner of the fender... it will no longer line up with the expanded/flared fender well. the grilles are pretty much swappable 2wd to 4wd 89-91 and then 92-95 90-91 4runner will swap with 89-91 truck 92-95 4runner is a whole new front with composite headlights and will require a modified radiator support or even a swapped support from a 4runner (I just modded mine for this swap) the bumpers do not line up, the width of 2wd is not enough, I have seen both done though and neither is noticable or that bad looking. the trouble is the fender hanger won't fit right so either you leave it out or "adapt" it to work the biggest thing to remember when getting a 4wd bumper is to take it off the frame so the bumper brackets fit all the bumpers will swap 89-95 truck 2wd/4wd/4run but you need the mounting brackets so if you get one from a junkyard make sure you unbolt it from the frame. here is a pic of that fender hanger
your 2wd bumper bracket (the one that holds it to the frame, utilizes 14mm bolts, that one) may possibly bolt up a 4WD bumper. mine did You will have to use 89-95 4wd corner lights or 90-91 4runner corner lights. you can keep the grille.
If u modify the brackets right u wont need to use the hangers. I only used one hanger and thats only cuz it was Hangin about 1/4" lower on that one side
You guys are awesome when it comes down to knowing your toyota pickups. Thanks for sharing your information and knowledge I might look into later if I come across a good deal or somebody wants to do some trading as my grill and muper are brand new. Ill have to hack almost the entire grill to clear my radiator...again.
i payed about 50 bucks for my 4x4 fenders at certifit. and you can get the corners pretty cheap off ebay. i think the have them for 25-30 dollars last time i checked
fenders and clear corners, its pretty easy to go for. I think rodney can save money for the fender LATER and do his rear end now
