My 95 shortbed 2wd has a bad exhaust leak af the y pipe.. id like to pickup a decently cheap header and build a new exhaust with my dad.. ive been told that 22r shorty headers will work on my later generation 22re and i was curious if thats true? Ive also been told that 4wd headers can work on the 2wd trucks but not vice versa.. i was just curious if yall have any experience with these.. The down stream O2 sensor has had the wires ripped out for years so i plan on getting and wiring up a new one once i get the exhaust figured out.. the truck has 265k and i assume the EGR is shot too so im considering rebuilding or doing away with it.. it looks as is if it just has a cherry bomb in place of the original cat setup. Its all how i bought it like 12 years ago and has just been a light duty work rig so its always just had oil changes and things replaced as they failed but would like to change that. Hah Thanks everyone!!

Cheap headers aren't good & good headers aren't cheap!

Headmen Headers are good ,not sure what there made of I ran them a long time ago on a Ford 460, in a van E-250.
The LC headers are made of stainless , I've been running for a long time on my LC stage oine engine in Retirement Toy, a 88 2wd extra cab

I think the real question is your real budget from header to tail pipe! Because you can still find oem stuff for cheap!! Remember the 22re head has air injection ports. There are many brands that still make decent parts. Pick on!

Cant i block off the air injection ports? I think im just going to delete the egr and air injection ports, and use a 22r headman header. It apears i only have a 02 sensor upstream of the cat. I would keep an oem setup if the y pipe wasnt broken and the cast manifolds didnt crack. 3 of the 22r and 22re's cast manifolds have been cracked and 2 of my 2rzfe cast manifolds are cracked. I just want something that wont crack as easily and is easily repaired/replaced.

Late to the party, but I kept the OEM manifold and most of the Y-pipe on my 22re after my CAT and o2 sensor got chopped out by a thief. I had read that the OEM cast manifolds were better than most of the aftermarket stuff out there, and that it's better to keep the Tri-Y layout for torque reasons (4-2 on manifold and 2-1 on Y-pipe). So I just had shop increase pipe size to 2" about a foot behind the "Y", then a high-flow Magnaflow CAT, then up to 2.25" with high-flow Magnaflow muffler and out stock location. Good luck with your exhaust setup.
