Im going to do 2.5 as straight as possible. no cat. Im running a TRD header , im looking for muffler suggestions. NOT DOWN WITH THE RICE SOUND. Im leaning more towards a deep throaty sound but not too loud.
2 or more glass packs. the more you stuff under there the better. why 2.5in? you boosted? gonna kill your torque. back pressure is a good thing, and anything over 2.25 will just make it louder, not faster.
2.25" was optimum for 22RE's. 2" should be great for the 20R's. 2.5" is optimum for the 3.0's. lol not sure when my friend will reply, but i'll be designing a high flow muffler design, trying to make it quiet yet have that hint of deep lowness
Im running a 40 series/2 chamber Flowmaster on my truck with no cat & its sounds great. Low tone & idle, but just loud enough when you get on it to let others know you've got something.
No one is willing to do it without a cat. Im getting estimates for $550 Thats absolutly insane. I will do it myself if thats what people charge these days. I think im going to open a muffler shop
Yes, Thats what went on the truck, a cherrybomb turbo from Summit for the muffler with a chrome turndown, right before the rear axel, nice sound, not too loud.
I have the same set up on my 77 Lbed minius the trd header And I used a stock pep-boys turbo muffler and i got that throaty sound with out all the other noise.. Friend of mine owns a muffler shop ..When i wen't in for the 2.5 pipping , He suggestedI go with 2 1/4 better.. He said i was going to loose all my back preasure.... He was right.. I scrapped the 2.5 an went back to 2 1/4.. Its up to you though... Good luck sam
Drive it to palmdale sam I'll get you a better price than $500... Maybe like $ 150. - $200 @ the most.
raptor turbos are great and they cost 24.00$ i think they are built very well i have them on my truck and i love them!!! deep throaty sound and not to loud..
if you have the bent pieces already ill weld it up for ya for a 6-pack. or another option is to try to find the coveted non-catalyst hood. bear with me... up to 1980 it wasnt the law to have a cat, so some cars didnt come with one stock, but there was a non-catalyst sticker under the hood. so with a sticker under the hood, it makes it legal for the muff shop to do it without a cat, otherwise your F'd at shops.
i have a dynomax ultra flo on mine...not ricey at all, good throaty sound and not obnoxiously loud even when i put my test pipe on
I recommend cherry bomb, I get them at kragen, they have the original cherry bomb for around 30 and the regular square style mufflers for 24, don't like the sound of flowtech to ricer for me
