Hahaha yea ive seen that done before. You should see it when they fill up a Tractor tire with ether and lite it up! BANG!!
That does work. It's not a good idea... But, it does work. Take it from a tire guy. We have marks on the 20' ceiling at work where tire/rim combos have popped off the mounting machines and hit the ceiling. I also know a guy who got blown clear out of the bay door because one blew off the machine knocked him out the door. Most large 6-ply tires take between 40-50 psi to seat the bead. Stiff 10-plys (think super swamper 38's) can take up to 100 psi. That's close to 50 inches of surface area at 100 psi. That's 5000 pounds of force coming at you if the bead pops hard enough to push the tire over the rim of the wheel. And believe me, it does happen. If you are going to do serious rock crawling or four-wheeling, just buy a real set of bead locking wheels with matching tires. That way the only risk of dying is from rolling the truck off a cliff. That's the way you want to die if you are out rock crawling. Not having your head taken off by a renegade tire...
^ true, my dad used to do tires and his friend was killed when a tire came apart while filling it. he didn't have it in the cage.
Yea its scary stuff. I live out in the country area and there are alot of farmers around. The tire shop i did co-op at back in my highschool days used to use ether on the calcium filled tractor tires. That was crazy stuff. I will never do it that way.
