Does anyone know if an engine and trans from a 93 Camry will fit my 91?

Oh I thought they were RWD. Guess that won't work. Reason I was thinking this is my motor is getting up there in mileage and I came across an ad for a low mileage Camry that was being parted out.

with a ton of work you could prolly make the motor work, but the tranny wouldnt have a chance in hell.

its a V6 camry right, is that the 3vz? you can get those out of pickup/4rnr's too.

now i dunno about you guys, but in first gear my lux does about 20km/hr second is 40 3rd is 60 4th is 80 and in 5th gear its going 100 and it feels like i need a 6th gear to idle there - at 100k it feels like its just reving too high

(jugding by your spedos 30mph=50kph for refrence)

i thought i had to put a whole new gearbox or something in to change that, but then someone said all i have to do is change the dif centre....any comments?

he described it to me as for example, trying to use the idea of an american car here....if you had an old navara, it would go slower cos of the gear ratio, but if you put the centre from something like a sentra or a skyline in there it would change it to rev more like that....

    you follow?

is this true or is the guy crazy?

A high geared rear end ratio, lower numerical, ie 3.07-1 will give you a higher cruise speed at lower engine RPM, a low geared rear end ratio, like 4.56-1 will give a lower cruise speed at higher engine RPM.
A lower gear ratio will give better off line acceleration, shorter distance between gear changes in the transmission, and an overall feel of more power.
With the engine spinning harder at lower speeds it'll decrease the fuel economy but its easier on clutches when trying to take off on an incline or pulling any weight.
There are gear ratio calculators on the net that will give you an idea of what the engine RPM will be at at certain speeds with whatever tire diameter you have and what different rear ring and pinion ratios your running.
Personally I try to gear so I,m right in the engines power band around 2800 to 3000 RPM at freeway cruise speed, not too worried about how fast I can go on the top end, very seldom do I find anywhere to drive at those speeds :D

To change the gearing you can replace the ring and pinion, swap out the center section, third member, pumpkin, or whatever else its called, by many, of the rear end for another

Nothing yet but it has almost 200,000 miles and I thought if I could find a low mileage motor to swap out than it would be cheaper than rebuilding mine.

Shonuff: Ya it's a V6 but I'm not sure which one they put in the Camrys.
