So I've been really thinkin of a diesel swap in my truck since the 1jz idea fell through I know so sad right. But I've read of ppl doin a Mercedes turbo diesel out of the 80s models I think. They're 5cyl turbod or the older 4cyl no turbo (no fun). What do you guys think of this? One problem I see now is the front sump oil pan especially when I Z my frame nd body it

My friend as a rebuilt turbo diesel out of an 81 VW rabbit that he is putting in his truck. Here is where he got some of the information from.

ACME ADAPTERS Suzuki Samurai Turbo Diesel

There was a youtube video of a 4x4 with a turbo VW diesel engine but i believe it has been removed. The Video did a basic walk-through of putting the motor in and fixing up the truck.

Hey I got a blown up TDI 6spd golf engine I'll sell yah!! $400 as is or $700 with FULL rebuild kit. Was gonna put it in a sand rail but my buddy sold it out from underneath me so I got no rail.

Nah those Benz DSL's are sick. Defenite potential for some ponies to be ripping the rear end apart.

Ask Twisted he's done one or two right. Maybe not in a truck but built em

The vw swap is the easiest to deal with and can be turned up to provide some decent power unlike a toyota 2l or 2lt. They are turds and stupid expensive to rebuild if need be.

Well I'm sure if this will help but what I'm doing on my 1uzfe swap is swapping to rack and pinion to make my swap easier and get it excatly where I want it. That's something you may or may not have to do. Just another thought that can help with tight squeezes

Might wanna look into that. You really think the bunny huggers in CA would let anyone put a diesel into a gas chassis? Starting with a diesel chassis allows you to put a blown big block GM into it and not worry about smogging it later. Although they are starting to smog diesels down that way now so even that old glimmer of hope is slowly slipping away.

At the DMV they still have a form and it has a section about engine swaps. It saus somesh!t about swapping in a diesel, gas-electric hybrid, etc. Still have to go thru the B.A.R.

From what I've read on Toyota diesel is tht if you do a diesel swap you fill out a mode of transportation form an check diesel. Then someone comes an makes sure an they print you out new reg. And send new title. And if they say you need to go get it bard or ref'd go somewhere else cause you don't hve to lol. But I seen a guy with a Mazda 2wd do it an he modified the front crossmember. Or ppl cut the pan where they need to an weld it up.

Exactly the reason I wanna do it. Bein different is the main purpose nd the power an torque you can get from one. Plus biodiesel aswell

I wish I had the $$ for the engine. I've read tht the merc turbo diesel can last 400,000 miles maybe more. There's a motor at picknpull in Stockton but non turbo. Not worthy time on tht

If you are set on a diesel, do the VW 1.9 TDI. Its buildable, tough, and cheap.

The benz idea is a bad one. They are PIGS, heavy and probably less power and torque than a 22R. They last so long because they couldnt hurt it if you tried.

On a side note, A guy around here swapped a 7.3 powerstroke in a 94-98 mustang. He goes over 200MPH in the Texas mile :nana:. Extreamly impressive.

But the 7.3 motor is a behemouth and cannot fit in a toyota.

I thought about the vw option but I read tht it seemed like I wasn't gettin much power cause of the different weight comparsion betweeen a yota an vw. But I'll look into it more. The Benz motor has potential to make power. I'm not after a whole lot just enough to keep up on long drives to shows with my buddies haha (they all have v8s)
